Our latest "It’s 3 O’clock Somewhere" had no shortage of laughter, as our residents and our guests from the surrounding area were treated to a hilarious performance from the very talented comedian, Jimmy, from Ginger Ninja Productions - Comedy and Entertainment ! It was a tremendous afternoon to be a part of for all attendees, who also had the chance to enjoy some tasty appetizers and refreshing beverages thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, BAYADA Home Health Care and Chester from Circle Liquors.

With this upcoming Sunday officially marking the start of "Be Kind to Humankind Week," we wanted to recognize someone who is constantly putting smiles on people's faces at The Shores, Sharon Hoffman, our latest UMC MVP! Sharon's warm presence and caring attitude is truly a shining light in our community, as she is always doing what she can to make the lives of our residents better. She is a big part of what The Shores is all about, and we are so lucky to have her on our team!!!

Dinner and a show! 😀

Our good friends from the South Jersey Players paid us a visit for our latest "Dinner Theater at The Shores," for what was a magnificent performance and a delicious meal! It was cool to see all of the talented individuals put on such a great show for our residents, teammates, and community members in attendance. We'd like to extend a sincere thank you to our incredible volunteers and Dining Services teammates who helped make it such a wonderful evening!

REHAB REUNION! ❤️

We had a BLAST reconnecting with old friends last weeks, as we opened our doors for a "Rehab Reunion." The Shores' AMAZING physiologist, Karen, orchestrated free VirtueSense balance screenings for our guests and offered her insight on the importance of balance and gait health. Our group then made its way to our latest "Concert Under the Stars," for what was a full evening of fun!

A magical night under the stars! 🌟

We concluded our summer concert series last week, as our residents, teammates, and friends from the area all gathered for our final "Concert Under the Stars" of the year. It was an absolutely beautiful evening, which saw a wonderful toe-tapping performance from the very talented Package Goods Orchestra and featured some refreshing and DELICIOUS ice cream for all ages. Special shoutout to Journey Hospice NJ for sponsoring the ice cream truck!

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who stopped by The Shores this year to take part in what has become a summer staple for so many! ☺️

SUMMER PUTT CHALLENGE! 🏌️🏌️🏌️

Our residents recently hit the greens for a fun and exciting mini golf contest! Participants had the opportunity to enjoy some light-hearted competition in our portable putting greens throughout The Shores. Special thanks to our "Clubhouse Pro" and Executive Director Jim Zauner for helping organize such a fun day.

Christmas time is here! 🎅🎄

Last week, we decked the halls at The Shores for our "Christmas in July" celebration, and everyone had a jolly old good time! Our residents, teammates, and volunteers dressed up in holiday colors, enjoyed fun games and delicious snacks, and even competed in a gumball counting contest! A big congratulations to one of our amazing residents, Fred K., and The Shores teammate Mary Beth for guessing the correct amount - 265 - which is quite the feat!

As we continue to celebrate UMC's 7th straight year as a Certified Organization, our wonderful Building Services Director, Michele Fabiano recently organized a beautiful display wall in honor of all the great work our Security and EVS Teams do! These individuals work hard each and every day to ensure our residents are safe and are counted on to assist our community in a wide variety of ways.

For the second year in a row, The Shores played host to a giant Mahjong tournament for our residents and friends from the community, in what was a wonderful afternoon dedicated to the late Marguerite “Midge” Peacock, our former resident. Midge loved the game of Mahjong and was always eager to teach her friends at The Shores how to play. She is a big reason why the game remains so popular throughout our community! We were truly blessed to receive so many donations to the UMC Foundation that were made in Midge's honor.

Thank you to everyone who made it such a special day and fitting tribute to wonderful person, including our FABULOUS volunteers! ☺️

OLYMPIC SPIRIT! 🥇

The Shores has been full of red, white, and blue lately in support of the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics, as residents and teammates alike have united to root on our country! In honor of the games getting underway, we hosted our first "The Shores Olympics Opening Ceremony" last month, and it was a BIG HIT. Our very special torch ceremony began all the way up on our third floor and was passed down to various community members at each hallway all the way down to our first-floor atrium for the official lighting!

As we head into the weekend, we want to give a shout out to each and every one of our AMAZING teammates! ❤️

The Shores was recently full of our brand new red t-shirts, which recognize UMC being named a Great Place to Work Certified Organization for the seventh straight year. Teammates from across our community and a variety of departments all joined together in celebration of this special honor, in what was an awesome day all around.

We are truly blessed to have such an incredibly dedicated and compassionate group of teammates, who go out of their way each day to put our residents FIRST!

Our Virtual Caregiver Support Group will be holding its monthly Zoom meeting on Monday, August 12th. This confidential group is open to the public and is a tremendous resource for anyone caring for and supporting a loved one with dementia or a related neurocognitive disorder.

Our incredible Marketing intern, Thomas, recently wrapped up his summer at The Shores after a wonderful ten-week experience. Over this span of time, Thomas had the opportunity to take part in a wide range of community activities and events and he even provided some of the content you see on this page! Thomas brought energy, creativity, and dedication to every project, and he displayed a level of professionalism that went beyond his years. He'll always be a part of The Shores family.

It's Three O'Clock Somewhere! 😎

Our monthly party at The Shores featured the talented Ralph Michaels who performed some Frank Sinatra hits for a jam-packed crowd earlier this month. The late afternoon get-together, which has quickly become a favorite of our residents and friends from the area, also boasted delicious appetizers and wine sponsored by BAYADA Home Health Care, Atlantic City, NJ and provided by friend of The Shores, Chet of Circle Liquors. Special shoutout to Melanie and Amanda from BAYADA and Neenie, our AMAZING volunteer for all their help.

We continued our summer-long celebration of being named a Organization for the 7th straight year with visit from our friends at Maui Joe's Shave Ice! It was so wonderful to cool down from the hot sun with tasty and refreshing Hawaiian shave ice and other treats. Our community is truly so thankful for each and every one of our amazing teammates and all of their hard work and dedication to our residents.

It is an experience so many of us will never forget. 😄

Hollywood legend Shirley MacLaine, 90, makes rare outing in Malibu The Oscar winner enjoyed an outdoor meal at one of her favorite spots in California.

Through our program, residents from The Shores took part in an awesome shell painting project, which will be displayed at a nearby beach! It was so cool to see how many different people from around our community wanted to take part in the project. There were so many beautiful shells that were painted a wide variety of colors. Special thanks to all our awesome volunteers who helped out!

Our residents recently enjoyed another fun trip to the Ocean City Public Library! We are so thankful for our relationship with the library and its tremendous staff. Their institution plays a prominent role not just in the local community, but in the lives of our residents and teammates as well. Nothing beats cozying up to a good book, and there is no shortage of options of those at the OCPL!

We look forward to our next visit! 😃
