There are many resources available to keep students engaged during the summer months when school is not in session. Knowing what is available and appropriate for students of different age groups can be challenging. Ector County ISD Digital Learning has teamed up with several district departments and is hosting an event for students PK to 12th Grade & their families to explore resources for Summer 2024 success!

What is Summer Spark?
Research shows student’s brains must stay active to avoid the “summer slide” - we want to provide the “spark” they need to do so! Join us and stay as long as you like between 5:30 and 7:00 pm with your student(s). Stations will be set up & representatives ready to help families explore tools and resources for the summer months.

At the “Summer Spark” event, ideas and resources will be provided by representatives from Ector County ISD Curriculum & Instruction, Nutrition, Guidance and Counseling and Digital Learning. We are also excited to host members from our Odessa community representing Basin Public Broadcasting Service and the Ector County Public Library.

Our community stepped up & all families that attend will have a chance to win a prize! Prizes include summer lawn activities, bikes, Rockhounds baseball game tickets, Desert Heat tickets, and free meals to local restaurants. We appreciate the 20+ local sponsors for their support!

We hope Ector County ISD students, families and staff will be able to attend to get prepared for Summer 2024 and that we can be a “spark” for student summer success!

For the 17th year in a row, we are set to celebrate our AVID seniors! AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is an elective class in middle schools and high schools, and it is used in elementary schools. This annual celebration highlights our seniors - in fact, 13 of them will share the job of emceeing the presentation!

Our kids will also hear from three former AVID students - local attorney Gavin Norris who not only was in AVID but was one of the first AVID Tutors at Permian HS; Regina Stock, an Odessa HS graduate and the 2023 Mrs. America; and Orlando Gunn, a former college football player at LSU (not an ECISD grad but a former AVID student).

Sextortion: Educating Ector County ISD & Protecting Our Students

Financial sextortion is the fastest growing crime targeting children in North America with incidents increasing by 1000% in the past 18 months. The FBI has warned that the primary target group for these cybercriminals is middle school aged boys. The best protection for children is prevention and several Ector County ISD departments have teamed up to host an opportunity to educate our community about what to know and resources available!
This event is for any ECISD staff, parent or caregiver concerned about their child's safety online. We would appreciate your help to share this opportunity & would love to have you join us. Don't miss this opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and keep our children protected.
