Happy birthday to my mom, ! I tend to tell people that, anything about me worth praising, I got from my mom. She is a woman of endless curiosity, compassion, kindness, and strength. She’s also been an inspiration for my martial arts journey, getting her black belt in Shotokan karate around 2003, letting me know that it’s never too late in life to try something new and accomplish things! How this winter weather makes me want to be 24/7.
One of my disappointments of 2023 was realizing that I was apparently one of a total 2 practitioners in the area, and the other one wasn’t really interested in taking on new students. Then I connected with a Yang-style teacher who I then learned had sexually assaulted another student of his and I had to cut that connection. I taught my own class for a while, but I had to accept I just have not reached the level where I feel fully confident teaching others. If you know of any tai chi teachers in the OKC metro area who teach the martial aspects of the art, like push-hands and qin na, and aren’t creeps, please drop me a line.
