15-YEAR-OLD KIDNAPPED AND TAKEN TO NEW YORK -- Suspect arrested in the LaGuardia Airport

On 6/12/2024 around 11:00 p.m., Officers were called to a home in north Tulsa for a missing person report.

A woman reported that her 15-year-old daughter had not been seen or heard from since 9:30 a.m. that same day.

Through the investigation, Tulsa Police Officers determined the 15-year-old victim had met a 25-year-old suspect online and had been communicating back and forth with him for at least several months.

Over that course of time, the suspect obtained n**e photos and videos of the victim.

Tulsa Police Detectives determined the suspect took a bus from Elmira, New York to Tulsa to meet up with the victim. The suspect then kidnapped the 15-year-old girl and flew back to New York City with the her on Wednesday.

Early Thursday morning, with help from the Port Authority Police Benevolent Association Inc, the suspect was taken into custody at LaGuardia International Airport in Queens, NY. The suspect and victim were both found in a secluded area of Terminal B. The victim was placed into protective custody, given medical attention, and will be reunited with her family.

We are working closely with our federal partners who will be handling the charges involved in this case. Because of that, we are not able to release the suspect's identity at this time.

We're grateful for the Officers hard work and cooperation with multiple agencies in helping return the victim to safety.

Each flag is a representation of a Jane Doe that was found in that specific area. She is not just a flag on a map. She is someone's daughter, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother.
She was a child who made wishes while blowing her birthday candles out. She shared memorable experiences with her family on Christmas mornings. She is someone.

Each flag is a human being. Someone from their home still prays to hold her again. To hear her voice again. Unfortunately that won't happen.

Thank you to the Jane Doe system we can now track every Jane Doe that is being found.

AN OP-ED FROM SHERIFF TOMMIE JOHNSON III

Upholding Justice: The Urgent Call for Stricter Sentences

As the Oklahoma County Sheriff, I've seen the consequences of leniency in our justice system firsthand. Recent events have underscored the urgent need for stricter sentencing for repeat offenders. The case of Andre Hunter serves as a tragic example of what can happen when our courts fail to adequately address the threat posed by habitual criminals.

On February 12th, District Judge Cindy Truong made a decision that shook our community to its core. Despite Hunter's admission to illegally possessing a firearm for the third time in as many years, he was granted a so-called TEEM bond and set free. This lenient action, coupled with Hunter's known affiliation with the 456 Piru street gang and his pending drug charge, should have raised alarm bells. Instead, it paved the way for tragedy.

Within two months of his release, Hunter committed a heinous crime: he kidnapped, r***d and robbed Lyft driver. Hunter reportedly choked the victim, threatened to kill her, and even wanted her to call her boyfriend so he could hear her being r***d. The victim, whose life has been irreversibly altered by this senseless act, rightfully questions the incomprehensible leniency shown to her attacker. The anguish she now endures serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of judicial leniency. Judge Truong's only defense for the weakness she showed on the bench that led to a young woman's r**e: She told The Oklahoman "the TEEM bond was legally authorized".

It's time for us to confront the uncomfortable truth: judges in Oklahoma County are being too lenient with repeat offenders, and this leniency is making our community more dangerous. When individuals like Hunter are released back into society with minimal consequences for their actions, it emboldens them to commit further crimes. We owe it to our citizens to ensure that those who repeatedly flout the law face meaningful repercussions.

Harsher sentences for repeat offenders are not about vengeance; they're about accountability and public safety. By holding habitual criminals accountable for their actions, we send a clear message that crime will not be tolerated in our community. Moreover, we provide a measure of protection for law-abiding citizens who deserve to feel safe in their own neighborhoods.

This is not a call for indiscriminate punishment, but rather a plea for balance and common sense in our judicial system. Judges must consider the broader implications of their decisions and prioritize the safety and well-being of our community above all else. We cannot afford to let dangerous individuals slip through the cracks due to leniency or misplaced sympathy.

As Sheriff, I stand with the victims and their families who have been harmed by the failings of our justice system. I urge our judges to take a firm stance against repeat offenders and impose sentences that reflect the severity of their crimes. Only then can we begin to restore faith in our legal system and ensure that justice is truly served.

Oklahoma County Sheriff

In 2010, the US Senate passed a bipartisan resolution recognizing May 16-22 as National Search and Rescue Week. In the resolution, Senator Cantwell stated:
“... I understand that no amount of preparation can protect you from an accidental misstep or an unforeseen circumstance, and it is often the swift response of trained search and rescue personnel that makes the difference between tragedy and survival. Every day in Washington state and across our nation, these brave volunteers exemplify courage, commitment and compassion in performing their duties. Today, we have passed a small act of recognition for their heroic efforts.”
