Life has been chaotic. I wanted to say lately, but really, it’s been the entire past year. Starting a farm from scratch came with more challenges than I anticipated, but we did it.

I said at the very beginning that my only goal for year one was to raise pigs and raise them really well. Start small and grow from there. I can confidently say that I did that. My pigs are thriving; they are living as nature intended in the woods and on pasture in sounders and droves. Though it came at the expense of my social life and self-care, next year will be better as I’ve implemented systems to better utilize my time on the farm. Remember, ‘you don’t rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems.’

My first year of farrowing came with success and loss. If you’re going to farrow, you have to know that loss is a part of it. Don’t let it get you discouraged. Learn through experience, adjust, and then keep moving forward. I sold most of this season's piglets to my friends at and after unloading, as we were standing there looking at the piglets in their new home, I was hit with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. It all started at PCF. Without that place and the crew and the experience, SFFF would never be here. If you want to do well in a new field, find the best in that space and learn from them. PCF is definitely the best, and I’m happy I get to still be a small part of it.

As we wrap up 2023, I’m looking forward to next year. Possibly adding another market, maybe a co-op/cafe in Sapulpa, definitely summer camps for kids, and a cowgirl camp. The cool thing is the ceiling is where you set it when you do your own thing.
