This is your Sunday morning reminder …

Words matter.

My daughter just watched Matilda and I am grieved when I hear about the “re-writing” of Ronald Dahl’s (and other authors) words to be “more sensitive.”

As an author and lover of words, please don’t do this. Let the reader see the original and judge. If it’s bad, the reader can interact and decide.

And certainly there are some authors who are: racist, bigoted, profane, vile, sexist… but some of the best teachers are those who show us what not to be.

The lake is frozen in the shape of the tree. The tree’s shadow shields the lake from the light, keeping it cold and frozen. Sometimes we have shadows on our hearts, keeping us cold and frozen. Sometimes we live with them for years.
