About
For over a decade, my professional activities have included leadership positions within state and local government, along with academic, and university research appointments, and consulting on a range of cultural and historic resource projects. My work has largely centered on the heritage of western Montana, and actively preserving and sustaining the culture of the people, places, and things that define the western states. Previous experiences also include many years living and working in the southeastern states, particularly St. Augustine, Florida, and Savannah, Georgia, while earning a Master’s Degree in Historic Preservation from Savannah College of Art & Design.
As a specialist in historic building materials, and built environments, my research and fieldwork support inter-disciplinary approaches to better understanding, and sustaining built heritage and material culture throughout the US, and around the world.
I remain a strong proponent for place-based heritage education, and frequently present lectures to historic preservation, and heritage programs throughout the US in support of pedagogical, and technical advancements in the heritage arts and sciences. With focus upon building pathology, materials science, and sustainability of historic built environments, my academic and field research continues to explore applied aspects of cultural heritage education, policy and law, and stewardship practices, with emphasis on creating models in heritage preservation and management for the 21stcentury.
