While summer cookouts are winding down and fall activities are ramping up, that doesn’t mean we’re done dealing with mosquitoes. There’s still a chance of being bitten and potentially developing a mosquito-borne illness, such as West Nile virus.

Methodist infectious disease providers want to remind you of some of the best ways to protect yourself from potential mosquito-borne illnesses.

o Reduce outdoor activities between dusk and dawn to avoid when mosquitoes are most active.
o Use EPA-registered insect repellents.
o Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when spending time outside.
o Use air conditioning or screens over open windows and doors to keep mosquitoes outside.
o Remove or empty standing water from items around your home that may attract mosquitoes.

To help with 'urgent' need, officials break ground on Council Bluffs behavioral health hospital The hospital, which will include 24 beds for children and offer outpatient services, will expand services in Council Bluffs and the region.

Big news from Council Bluffs: Today, in partnership with Acadia Healthcare, we broke ground on Methodist Jennie Edmundson Behavioral Health. Slated to open in 2026, this state-of-the-art behavioral health hospital will have 96 inpatient beds – including 24 beds dedicated to serving the mental health needs of children and adolescents – and provide intensive outpatient services.
