Obituary information for Johnny G. Robinson 07/25/2024

It is with great sadness that we share of the passing of the Town's former maintenance person, Johnny Robinson. He was a friend to everyone that he met, and we were blessed to have him work at Highland.

Arrangements are as follows:
This Saturday:
Visitation at Lemley from 12:30 - 2:00 pm
Service at Lemley at 2:00 pm
Burial to follow at Oak Hill

We send our condolences, and our prayers are with his family during this difficult time of loss.
"Although no words can take away the sorrow that you bare, may it be comforting that others care." -unknown

The following is a post shared from his daughter Becca Moore:

Our sweet daddy went to Heaven last night. He left us in the most beautiful, peaceful way possible. We have zero doubts that we will see our daddy again, and we just know Bella was waiting right there for him. We are going to miss him every single day, and we don’t exactly know how to do life without our daddy. But we have such peace.

We have had set up a donation account at Hometown bank, in order to help for medical expenses and to help my momma with everything. The account is under my daddy’s name, Johnny Robinson. You can also send by Venmo to -moore-43. If you feel led to help in any way, please donate. My parents would be the last to ever ask for help, so we are doing it for them. Trying to keep the stress off mom as much possible.

We are beyond words thankful for the prayers, food, and just overall concern for our family the last few weeks. We felt every prayer. Daddy was so, so loved.

The family is wearing purple πŸ’œ to honor our daddy! It was his favorite color, and he would want us to be bright and colorful

Such an amazing story below of how it all began!

Last year, the reputation of the Hanby/Ryan's fireworks show at Highland Lake grew so much that a new location was needed for everyone in the community to be able to enjoy the show. And, if you knew who the organizers are, the story is even more amazing.

The 4th of July fireworks celebration has been an annual event for the Hanby's family reunion for decades, usually put together the day before with whatever fireworks that people had picked up. About five years ago Max (10) and Brady (12) Ryan, the Hanby's grandsons, decided that they wanted to take over the show. They approached it with a new dedication- with guidance they made all the decisions: researching what fireworks to buy, finding a supplier, finding coupons and finding ways to pay for the fireworks needed to truly make it a show.

Of course, family, friends, the Lady Lakers and members of the Highland Lake community provided financial support, but they knew they couldn't depend on donations to cover the $3,000.00 needed for the supplies. Max and Brady have spent their time doing countless odd jobs over the years to make money for the fireworks show- motivated in part by the allure of fireworks, but mainly by their desire to bring joy to the community.

However, this isn't just a story about two boys who love fireworks; it's a story about inspiration. You see: Max is dyslexic/dysgraphic, which makes reading, writing, and note taking challenging, and as a result, Max struggled with school. However, when he and Brady took over the fireworks show, which required all the things he struggles with, Max found a reason to challenge himself to overcome his reading difficulties.

Danny Shotts, owner of TNT Leeds who has become a supporter and advisor, shared fireworks catalogs with the brothers so they could do research. Inspired, for months leading up to July 4th Max spent hours reading the descriptions in those pamphlets to plan the next best show. As the show continued to improve the boys put more time and effort in and Max discovered he had an aptitude for engineering and has taken on the majority of planning and organizing.

The show grew beyond just the fireworks to creating a music list (thank you, Steve Smith!), organizing the sequence of fireworks, setting up for the display, recruiting assistants, pre-planning and safety meetings, and executing the plan. From the response that their shows have received the past few years, Max and Brady have succeeded -- so much so that because of last year's crowd, they have had to move their 4th of July firework show so that it is accessible to everyone in the community to enjoy. With the guidance of their parents, they have worked with the City of Highland Lake, the Lady Lakers, Highland Lake Police & Straight Mountain Fire Department, WCRL radio station along with community businesses to put together a celebration at the Anchor, the Highland Lake Community Center. This also comes with extra expense, particularly for the insurance (extra 3,500) required for a public event. The family has expanded fundraising efforts to try cover expenses.

For those of you who enjoyed the show before and those of you who will enjoy the show this year, a donation would be greatly appreciated; Anything over the cost of the show will be donated to the Straight Mountain Fire Department.

Just a friendly reminder that with the upcoming 4th of July Celebrations, please be mindful of the noise ordinance within the town.

Just a few more days until the Fireworks display at the lake! Here are a few pictures from years past, and this year promises to be even better!
So many of you have expressed your excitement in the show being in the park this year, and we know it will be beautiful. I would like to remind everyone that the Hanby/Ryan families have been presenting fireworks shows for many years, at their expense. This year they asked to move it to the park, and are still willing to cover the cost of the fireworks. Unfortunately, by moving it onto Town property, they are required to provide insurance, which was an additional $3500.00! They were willing to do this, but all of us will enjoy this show, and they should not have to cover the entire cost. Please, if you have not done so already, send a contribution to help with the cost. Any money collected over the cost of the display will be donated to the Straight Mt. Fire Dept. Contributions can be made by check to: Amy Ryan, and mailed to:

There will also be a container for donations, available at the event.

Please meet the two young men who are responsible for this year’s fireworks display in the park at Highland Lake. Max and Brady Ryan have worked every summer for the past 5 years, in order to raise the money for the July 4th fireworks display at the Hanby home, on Highland Lake.
As the crowds have gotten larger, and access to the fireworks is limited at the current location, they have asked the Town to allow them to use the park for this year’s display.
Each year, the display has gotten bigger and better, and this year’s display will not disappoint! Hopefully, everyone will enjoy the evening, and we will be able to continue to have this in the park, available for everyone to enjoy!
Please come enjoy this wonderful event, and consider a contribution to help offset the expense! All money will go toward the cost of the fireworks display, and any money over the cost will be donated to the local Fire Department.

This is going to be a beautiful display over the water. You will be able to see it from the water, or from the park. This display is usually at the Hanby home, but could only be seen from the water. They are putting a lot of money into this, for the enjoyment of the entire Town. All donations will go toward this display, with any extra donated to the Fire Dept. You can send a donation to the address below. Also, there will be a donation table at the park the night of the display. Let's support this great display, and hopefully we can do it again next year!

This past week, we learned of the passing of Lucas Butts. Lucas did not live at Highland Lake, but he was always willing to help out, any time we had a project. This Sunday, February 25th, we will be installing new poles for the Purple Martins. We could always count on Lucas to be here and help clean, paint or install the houses for these wonderful birds. Sadly, this time Lucas will not be here to join us. Lucas was a very good friend of Dr. George Fant and his family, and became a friend to many of you who worked with him on Town projects. If you would like to leave a message regarding Lucas, we welcome you to do so.
