The Blount County Communications District is only the second agency in the State of Alabama to achieve this certification and officially become a National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), Missing Kids Readiness Program Certified 911 Center. We are continually working towards providing quality services to the communities we serve, through enhanced training programs and partnerships such as this, enabling us to provide support to the most vulnerable in our communities in times of great need.

Today is Administrative Professionals' Day. We would like to recognize our very own Office/Human Resource Manager, Paige. The Blount County Communications District extends heartfelt appreciation and value that Paige brings to our organization. She works tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure our bills are paid, handling all on and offboarding of employees, insurance benefits, assists with writing policies and procedures, helping with the training program, and many other tasks. Words can not truly convey how much of a blessing it is to have Paige at our organization. Please join us in celebrating Paige on this special day.
As National Public Safety Telecommonicators Week comes to a close, our agency is overwhelmed and blessed with the support and recognition that agencies have shown toward our hard working 911 Telecommunicators. Our Day shift was treated to good Mexican food which catered and delivered by Lifeguard EMS Chief Burns. Our Night shift was catered some good ol BBQ Smoked Chicken with all the fixings. The meal tonight was catered and delivered by Locust Fire Chief Sweatman.
A huge Thank You to everyone that took the time to celebrate our 911 Telecommunicators this week.
In closing the Blount County Communications District , extend our deepest gratitude to the unsung heroes behind the scenes--our dedicated 911 professionals. Your unwavering commitment to answering calls for help, ensuring the safety of our communities, and supporting emergency responders does not go unnoticed. Though you may work behind the scenes, your impact is immeasurable. You are the first first responder, and your tireless efforts save lives every day. We are so appreciative for all the food that was delivered today. Our Day Shift was catered Charlie B's, they enjoyed chicken finger plates, hamburger steak plates, with peach cobbler and banana pudding. Those meals were delivered by Straight Mountain Fire Assistant Fire Chief Peek and Captain Armstrong. Night Shift was treated with a catered meal as well by Blountsville Fire Assistant Chief Mikell. He brought them spaghetti and lasagna from Giovanni's. Firefighter Greer and Benson of Blountsville Fire also work as 911 Telecommunicators at our center.
This has been a great week of support for our 911 center. We are thankful and blessed for our relationships and recognition from the agencies we serve.
As National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week starts to wind down, the food keeps rolling in. Day shift was blessed with a visit from Firefighter Hill with Holly Springs Fire Department. She catered some good ol Patty Melt sandwiches and fry plates from Stephens Diner for our staff. Snead Police Department arrived just in time for dessert, a big box of homemade cookies that was delivered by Police Chief Hudgins and Investigator Kent for the team to enjoy. Our night shift was treated to some nice juicy steaks which were cooked and delivered by Fire Chief Frye and Assistant Chief Frye of Ricetown Fire Department.
This week we have been blessed with immense support for our 911 Telecommunicators..
We were blessed once again by several agencies taking the time out of their day to visit and show support for our Telecommunicators by providing some delicious meals and sweets. Our first visitor was Assistant Fire Chief Jones with West Blount Fire District, he brought us homemade tacos made fresh at the fire department. Knowing we were needing something sweet to eat after lunch, Flight Medic Jacob Hudson with Regional Air-Medical Services(RAMS) delivered a scrumptious cake and a bag of goodies. Our night shift Telecommunicators were delighted on this rainy day to be treated to a hot bowl of homemade gumbo delivered by Pilot Weslie Powell with Survival Flight when they arrived for work.
Our agency is very blessed and thankful that agencies continue to show support and recognition for our great staff of Telecommunicators.
Shout out to Leeds Fire & Rescue for catering food for our day shift from Chick-fil-a including some chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, and cookies. The meal was delivered by Chief Parsons, who is also one of our 911 Board Members, and Captain Shell.
Night shift was treated to some good food as well, Cleveland Fire and Rescue Department catered Subway with all the fixings along with some cookies. The food was delivered by Assistant Chief Marsh and Casey.
We are so blessed for the support during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week from all of our great partnering agencies.
Special Thank You to Jana Short for the gift bags full of goodies for our 911 telecommunicators. Jana was a 911 Telecommunicator for many years in Blount County and wanted to make sure we had plenty of snacks on hand.

The Blount County Communications District understands the importance of improving accountability, transparency and trust. Thatβs why weβre excited to announce a new tool to enhance the safety of our citizens as well as the First Responders who put their lives on the line each day. Today we launched PowerDMS that will help our organization standardize all operations and better align our agency with national standards, better preparing us for future communications accreditation.

The Blount County Communications District Administration has been working diligently towards securing grants to assist the District with some of our strategic operational needs.
The District is pleased to announce that we were recently awarded $285,672.66 to address technology and infrastructure needs. The Blount County Communications District staff is committed to continue working to secure additional grants and bring local tax dollars back to Blount County and the City of Leeds.
Today, Operations Manager Shane Hobson had the pleasure of presenting another one of our trainees a cake in celebration of completing training.

Help us in congratulating Executive Director Derrick Walker on his 1 year anniversary with the Blount County Communications District. Since arriving, Director Walker has been instrumental in working with the 911 board to obtain pay increases for our Public Safety Telecommunicators, as well as establishing a standarized 12 week training program and a growth plan by creating 3 levels of Public Safety Telecommunicator. These levels provide staff the ability to grow within the district by obtaining several certfications for each level.
