Get to know the Doctor - Dr. Wright is a Pediatric Dentist that has a heart for service. In fact, his first experiences treating oral ties took place as a missionary dentist at Hospital Diospi Suyana, in Peru. He served there with his family for 2 years before returning back to the states in 2015. This beautiful baby received a tongue tie release by Dr. Stephen Wright and is now doing much better ๐๐๐
An oral release usually isnโt a quick fix and the healing process can be draining emotionally and physically at times but when talking to moms on the other side the grand majority agree it was worth the effort for their little one to be able to thrive the way the good Lord intended. Dr. Wright is the most proficient, effective, knowledgeable, thorough and gentle provider in the area as this precious baby would attest to just moments after his release ๐ฅน๐๐
For newborns and toddlers only topical anesthetic is applied to the tissue with a Q-tip before the restrictions are released. While the procedure isnโt painless it does take the edge off and we much rather have a little pain for a few seconds than take on the extra risk that comes with putting a baby to sleep. Parents are always surprised at how quickly their child returns from the procedure and how fast they calm down ๐

aims to shine a light on Breast Cancer Awareness month and helps remind people that breast cancer is a potentially fatal disease, but highly detectable and treatable.
Conducting self-examinations monthly helps women become familiar with their breasts and can help with early detection. 40% of diagnosed cases have been detected by women who felt a lump.
Breastfeeding has shown to help lower breast cancer risk if done for longer than 6 months, as it releases less estrogen. It can also help lower the likeliness of ovarian cancer and your childโs risk of cancers.

We know itโs not always possible for dads to come to their childโs tongue tie appointments, but when they do its a great thing! Itโs great because they too can hear and see Dr. Wrights post op instructions which empowers them both to support each other when it comes to performing the post op stretches. In the case of this lovely couple, mom took charge of stretching the lip and dad took charge of the tongue and together they both did awesome!!! ๐โบ๏ธ We loved their team approach and are so happy their baby is now benefiting from their teamwork and feeding better ๐๐ฅณ Truly a beautiful thing ๐๐๐ Way to go you guys! ๐๐
Note - the same beautiful support and empowerment is also seen when grandma accompanies mom and dads that donโt come can also be empowered and supportive if they take the extra time to listen and educate themselves ๐

A tongue that is restricted often leaves a child feeling vulnerable when eating solids as the tongue is unable to have complete control of where the food goes. In comparison, a tongue that is not restricted is able to go where it needs to go, giving the child complete control. ๐๐ We are so happy and proud of this moms great intuition knowing something wasnโt right and blessed to have been apart of the positive change.
The issues that babies and moms face when having struggles with breastfeeding is multifactorial, often needing the time and attention from several professionals. We feel honored to be apart of that amazing local team here in the Chattanooga area.

Today is National Baby Sleep Day - a day โofficiallyโ recognized on March 1, 2017.
The newborn stage tends to be the hardest with sleeping for parents - as babies are waking constantly to feed, be changed, and snuggle! Did you know that an untreated tongue tie can lead to sleep issues throughout life?
Tongue-ties and low tongue resting postures often lead to or exacerbate mouth breathing. Mouth breathing prevents the brain from experiencing the deepest level of sleep. As a result, people who mouth breathe at night often awaken unrefreshed. Children and adults may be getting the right quantity of sleep at night, but many are not getting the quality of sleep that they need.
A baby with an anterior (near or at the tip) tongue-tie or a hidden (submucosal) posterior tongue-tie is often born with a high arched palate. These common tethers keep the tongue in a low position in utero, so the palate does not receive its natural resting pressure from the tongue, and instead of a broad, flat palate, the baby is born with a high arched or โbubbleโ palate which leaves less room for the base of the nose and less volume available for the nasal cavity.
See if we can help your baby get a better nights sleep by scheduling your complimentary consultation today!
While itโs best and easiest to release oral restrictions when your child is an infant, effective and lasting releases are possible at any age and we make it as safe and easy as possible. If you or your child have an oral restriction or youโre concerned you might, call and schedule an appointment and we would be happy to perform a free evaluation and go over the options with you at no charge. 423-910-3011
At Chattanooga Tongue Tie Center not all Tongue and Lip revisions get treated the same. Age, thickness and childโs mental ability to handle treatment are all taken into account. For the little one above only topical anesthetic was applied before the procedure was preformed, but for older toddlers they often benefit from a mild sedative that we give them a few minutes before the procedure. No matter what anxiety level or age we make sure that each patient is safe and feels as comfortable as possible.
These Tongue Tie revisions were performed by Dr. Stephen Wright at the Chattanooga Tongue Tie Center where he uses a non-contact CO2 laser that cuts without physically touching the tissue.
So why CO2 over say a Diode laser?
For starters itโs safer and cleaner because CO2 laser energy interacts with water molecules, heating them up to 100C (compared to diode lasers that heat up to temperatures of 700-1000C to cut via direct contact) Itโs also the most efficient laser to use as procedures usually take 5-20 seconds vs 45-60 seconds with a diode.
Dr. Wright started out using a diode laser and states that while both laser types are effective when in the right hands he will exclusively use the CO2 laser because itโs:
- safer / less heat
- more efficient, procedures take
less time / babies cry less / get
back to mom quicker
- mothers report less post op pain
with their littles / Dr. Wright gets
less calls from moms who are
unable to console their babies.
And lastly
- it produces a cleaner cut making
tissues less likely to reattach! ๐
We hope you found this helpful in knowing why we choose CO2 over diode and if you have any more questions please donโt hesitate to reach out to us at 423-910-3011
