Hopewell Cemetery Association
HCA is dedicated to the preservation of Hopewell Cemetery as a beautiful place of comfort and peace.
The purpose of the Hopewell Cemetery Association is to care for and maintain the Hopewell Cemetery and to provide a place where respect and devotion may be given those interred there. Additionally the Association seeks to foster communication and cooperation between the families of those interred and the Association.
Beautiful photo from Hopewell Cemetery this morning.
Saturday, March 26, at approximately 10:00 (following the Cemetery Board Meeting). Hopewell Cemetery Workday to remove grass from atop gravestones and edge around the markers. Bring yard tools and work for whatever length time you can. We look forward to seeing you. Please make sure that we get your contact information and reason for interest in the cemetery before you leave.
Workday photos.
A big thank you to the 12 hard-working friends of Hopewell Cemetery who came out and worked hard this morning. Edging, digging up weeds, trimming up scraggly trees, cleaning stones, identifying property lines, moving dirt were the main tasks worked on. And the fellowship was an added bonus.
There is much yet to be done, so there will be additional opportunities for more folks to join in. Watch this page for future announcements!
Don't forget! Cemetery Work Day this Saturday, Dec. 4. We'll start at 8:00 and work till about Noon. Join us any time during those hours that you can!!
Tentative Date for Hopewell Cemetery Work Day-
Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021
Details will follow. Mark your Calendars.
When the weather is cooler, we will plan a work day at the cemetery to clear grass and weeds from around the gravestones and do other maintenance work. Watch this page for information as to date and time.
If you have relatives or friends buried here, we especially invite you to make a visit. We also are hoping to get information on as many of those buried here as possible and invite you to share their information and history with us.
The Covid 19 pandemic slowed down the Association's work with the cemetery, but we hope to be back in full force by the fall. The cemetery continued to be monitored and maintained regularly. As plans for the remainder of 2021 and for 2022 develop, we will keep you posted on this page. We invite your comments, information about family/friends buried here, and questions.
We went to mulch the shrubs today - and found a place of peace and calm in the midst of these days that bring concern and uncertainty. We hope that all of you can find peace as you shelter and practice distancing.
We appreciate so much the hard work of the Geographic Field Studies class. Here is a link to one of the presentations at the end of the class. We think you will enjoy it. Also note the interactive map of the cemetery where you can click on a grave and get information about it (unless it is unmarked). Be sure to scroll all the way down the pop up to see all the information.

Locating Burials to Preserve History at Hopewell United Methodist Church
Another day of field study at the cemetery. Using ground penetrating radar. The reports we get from all the various methods of study will really help with our cemetery records.
The field studies class continues its work at the cemetery - it has certainly been hot for them last week and this week. It was been fun watching the class members and professors work and seeing their progress. We certainly appreciate them!!
Exciting news to share! An Auburn University summer class, GEOGRAPHIC FIELD METHODS, will be visiting Hopewell Cemetery to do field investigations of human and physical characteristics of the landscape. As part of this work, they will be using ground penetrating radar, drone technology, and other methods which will help us locate some unidentified burials and confirm the existence of some that we think we have possibly located already. We hope to have a much better mapping of the cemetery and other valuable information as a result of this class's work. The Cemetery Association continues to try to learn as much as we can about Hopewell Cemetery and to be able to provide more information to those interested in Hopewell Cemetery and its history. As always, if you have or if you know anyone else who has information or stories about those interred here, please contact us and share that with us.
