I potty trained my boys around 2.5 years. The age that worked best for my family though may not be the same for yours.

I tell my clients this all the time!!! Just because your child has a potty accident (especially in the first 2 weeks) is not a sign that they aren’t ready or that you are a failure.

My best advice is to stay calm (even when it’s tough and your exhausted) and use the accident as information.

There are lots of reasons why kids have accidents but none of them are your fault!

One easy way to prepare your child for potty training is simply to let them watch you go to the bathroom.

Most kids won’t let you go to the bathroom without them already but when you are in there, start talking about what you are doing to get them comfortable with the idea.

Accidents can be really frustrating for parents during potty training especially if you have been at it for a while.

I had to remind myself that accidents were part of the process and to stay calm.

I consistently used these phrases to help establish and maintain the boundary that pee/p**p go in the potty.

This is the purse I treated myself to after my third son was potty trained. For 9 years I changed diapers. I carried around a diaper bag filled with diapers, wipes, bags and extra clothes.

Some of the motherhood milestones are hard when it’s the baby of the family. I was so sad the end my breastfeeding journey with my third. And donating the newborn onesies brought me to tears.

But trading in the diaper bag for a new purse because my son was potty trained was one milestone that I can honestly say I was 100% happy about.

Potty training isn’t always easy but when you finally get to the light at the end of the tunnel, you deserve a reward.

My reward was this purse!

What will you treat yourself to when potty training is done?

Before ending my last client consultation the mom said, “I feel so relieved that I have someone to talk to.”

The next day she texted me to share that her daughter p**ped in the potty for the first time in 6 months.

Some people don’t understand why I quit my teacher job to become a certified potty trainer but this ⬆️…this is why I do it!

Trust me, this thought went through my head every time I started potty training my sons, “It would be so much easier to be back in diapers.”

But the reality is, pushing through a few days and then staying consistent for a few weeks was all it took to ditch the diapers for good!

Mommas, don't worry if your little one takes time to get to the potty. Self-initiation during potty training can take up to six months to become reliable. Be patient and keep prompting them. Remember, every child is different and will learn at their own pace. You got this! 💪🏼🚽

Some tips to help develop self initiation:

We are getting ready to take our kids camping!

This is the first time we will be traveling without diapers. All three of my boys are finally potty trained!!!!!! Hallelujah!

That being said, I still think we can only handle a 2 or 3 hour car ride.

What’s the longest car ride you have taken with your kids.

Potty training is a process, not a race! 🚽💨💩

As parents, we all want our little ones to hit those major milestones quickly, but when it comes to potty training, it's important to remember that it's a process that takes time. Every child is different and will learn at their own pace. So, don't stress if your child isn't potty trained as quickly as you hoped.

It's important to be patient, consistent, and positive throughout the process. Celebrate every little success, no matter how small. Remember, accidents are a normal part of the process and shouldn't be a source of frustration or disappointment.

So, take a deep breath, relax, and trust the process. Before you know it, your little one will be a potty pro! 🎉

A three day weekend is the perfect time to start potty training. It gives you and your child an extra day at home to set the foundation for potty training!

Are you ready to start potty training your little one? Here are 3 steps to help make the process a little easier!

Step 1: Bare Buns - Start by letting your child go diaper-free while they're playing indoors. This helps them get comfortable with the sensation of going potty without a diaper.

Step 2: Commando - Once your child is comfortable going diaper-free, have them wear loose-fitting pants without underwear. This allows them to feel when they're wet while still giving them some coverage.

Step 3: Underwear - Finally, transition to underwear once your child is consistently using the potty. Be prepared for accidents, but encourage your child to keep trying!

Remember, every child is different and potty training can take time. Celebrate the small victories along the way and be patient with your child. You've got this! 🚽💪

I loved the Baby Bjorn little potty to start with. My boys felt more comfortable sitting on something smaller that they could get on and off themselves.

They all transitioned to using the toilet about 6-9 months after we started potty training.

Ok, I’ll go first…while potty training my oldest son, at the playground, he decided that the top of the slide was the perfect place to take care of some business.

Unfortunately, he forgot to inform his pants, and things got a little messy. Moral of the story: It can happen to the best of us, but we are still good moms!
