St. John's Fly Fishers
We are a Men's Group of Christian fly fishermen that fish the rivers, lakes, ponds and oceans of this world. www.stjohnsflyfishers.org
We share our passion for our Lord, our sport and the Lord's call to be "fishers of men".
Bucket Biology Gone Wrong
As you likely know, "Bucket Biology" is hazardous to native fish. This is a really interesting read from American Angler.
americanangler.com IN AN EFFORT TO IMPROVE ON NATURE, alien fish have been flung like confetti around the lakes and rivers of the American West (and the world) by bucket biologists, professional and otherwise.
Trout Unlimited Alaska
How does this make you feel?
Yestserday, the EPA took a step to withdraw the 2014 proposed determination, which added upfront protections for the Bristol Bay region from threatening mining proposals like the Pebble Mine. If the EPA reverses these proposed protections, they are not only failing their legal responsibility to protect human health and clean water, but they are failing the people who rely on Bristol Bay, and sacrificing jobs, Alaskan way of life, and world-class hunting and fishing opportunity for a risky mine proposal.

Excellent technique (both the bear and the cameraman).

RIP to our former POTUS. May you find beautiful streams to fish in heaven. Tight lines in the great beyond... Photo by: David Valdez
RIP to one of our greatest fly fishing ambassadors. Many years ago when I got into this sport after a long stint being out of the sport, I got to meet Lefty at the San Mateo fly fishing fair and he gave me some excellent casting tips out at the casting pond. He showed me how to double haul that day... he was such a good teacher and full of love for the people he coached and full of life. See you on God's golden shore someday Lefty. God's Speed. MJL.
BTT mourns the loss of Bernard "Lefty" Kreh, a fly-fishing pioneer and ambassador the likes of which our sport may never see again. After serving in the second World War, Lefty went on to become an accomplished outdoor writer and editor, fishing show host, conservationist, and a world renowned casting instructor. A native of Maryland, Lefty began his rise to fly fishing fame in 1965 when he relocated to Miami to run the Met Fishing Tournament - at that time the largest fishing tournament in the world. His instructional videos, books, and articles are go-to resources for anglers at every level, and his fly patterns, such as Lefty’s Deceiver, have caught fish from the Keys to the Seychelles. Among his many accolades, Lefty is the recipient of ASA’s Lifetime Achievement Award and NAFTTA’s Lifetime Contribution Award, and is a member of the IGFA’s Hall of Fame. He was tireless in his approach to sharing his knowledge with all who asked. The tremendous impact he had on our sport is undeniable. We thank him for his support of BTT as an Honorary Trustee and recurring cast member on the Buccaneers & Bones television show. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family.

Fly fishing & Fall - they just go together!
“I think I fish, in part, because it's an anti-social, bohemian business that, when gone about properly, puts you forever outside the mainstream culture without actually landing you in an institution.” ~ John Gierach
"There is no greater fan of fly-fishing than the worm." ~ Patrick F. McManus
"To go fishing is the chance to wash one's soul with pure air, with the rush of the brook, or with the shimmer of sun on blue water. It brings meekness and inspiration from the decency of nature, charity toward tackle-makers, patience toward fish, a mockery of profits and egos, a quieting of hate, a rejoicing that you do not have to decide a darned thing until next week. And it is discipline in the equality of men - for all men are equal before fish." ~ Herbert Hoover

The Biggest Battle in Five Generations
A very interesting article about the rising acidic levels in our oceans and the threat to oyster larvae. Can't help but wonder if this high acidity is also playing a part in the heavy decline of Pacific Salmon and Steelhead runs? It is all a delicately balanced Eco-system.
