The California Firefighters Memorial is an annual event honoring firefighters who have died in the line of duty or from job-related illnesses. This solemn occasion, rich in firehouse traditions, draws hundreds of firefighters, families, and citizens to the state capital to pay tribute to those who sacrificed for public safety. The ceremony includes a procession of uniformed firefighters, heartfelt tributes, and the presentation of a U.S. flag to the families of those honored on the Memorial Wall. This year, the crew from Station 6, C Shift, Fire Captain Anthony Gutierrez, Firefighter/Paramedic Martin Navia, and Firefighter/Paramedic John Collins represented the Orange City Firefighters, sharing a remarkable and unforgettable experience together. This is an experience that every crew should wholeheartedly embrace together, and we genuinely hope that in the coming years, we can motivate more crews to come together as a fire family and attend.

Four members of the Orange City Firefighters took on the 2024 Spartan Stadion Race (Stadion pays homage to ancient roots). The event featured a 5k course that involved climbing up and down the stairs of Angel Stadium, along with tackling 20 different obstacles. If you couldn’t conquer an obstacle, you had to knock out 15 burpees. A big shoutout to John Collins, who finished an impressive 21st out of 4,344 competitors. Congrats to everyone who took part!

Silent but deadly: Drowning is a tragic and silent event that can happen to any family, especially children aged 1-4 and teens. It is important to learn swimming and water safety skills, install secure pool fences, assign a responsible adult “a water watcher” for close supervision near water, use the buddy system, and know CPR to prevent these accidents.

⚠️ Some Ambulance Operators were more enthusiastic about the video than others 🙃
Orange City Firefighters take pride in serving a community with a department that constantly evolves to better meet their needs, with our Ambulance Operators playing a significant role in this progress. The Orange City Fire Department launched an Ambulance Operator Program to meet the growing demand for services. This program added a fifth ambulance and restored Truck Company staffing to recommended levels. Two full-time ambulances at Station 3 and Station 5 provide round-the-clock emergency transportation by licensed EMT professionals. In 2023, response times improved by 24%, reducing incident times by an average of one minute. Orange City Fire responded to 10,290 EMS incidents, a 7% increase from the previous year. This integration has improved operational efficiency, cost recovery, and emergency management in the city.
We are proud that our Ambulance Operator program also promotes mentorship, professional development, and career advancement within the fire service, with 90% of alumni securing promotions in external agencies and creating a pool of qualified candidates for future firefighter openings in the City of Orange.
