From April 5th to 8th, 2024, FCCLA members from across Florida gathered to network with fellow members, attended leadership workshops, and participated in Competitive Events, exploring career pathways, and learning from industry experts. Throughout the conference, both students and advisers had the opportunity to participate in informative and interactive workshops. Workshops were curated by various sponsors and ranged from interactive food creation to college tips and tricks.
Conference highlights included four exciting and powerful General Sessions, Florida Proficiency and FCCLA STAR Events Competitions, Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry Events, Student Interactive Workshops and Teacher Professional Development Workshops, and Exhibitor and Sponsor Showcase.

Students had the privilege of hearing from Eli Ellisaint, a shining example of the success that comes from Orange Technical Collegeβs CNC/Machining program. He graduated in February, and is now making waves at Majestic Marble and Granite, and has landed a fantastic opportunity as a program writer at House of Plastics. So proud of our alumni!
On April 5, 2024, Arthur Battles received a Crystal Award from Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) for being a senior volunteer in career and technical education at Orange Technical College South Campus.
The 2024 Crystal Awards hosted by the Foundation for OCPS was held at Sea World βPort A Call banquet hall, Orlando, Florida. Family, friends, co-workers, supervisors, and supporters filled the room with excitement and cheers as ADDitions School Volunteers and Partners in Education were honored. Battles and over 60 volunteers plus business owners from various industries were given accolades and trophies for numerous volunteer hours and donations of in-kind service. The Crystal Award Ceremony showcased the honorees and made it clear that volunteers are precious gems.
Mr. Battles has volunteered as an instructor of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program, Heart Saver βCardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED), and First Aid (FA) program at the Orlando College South Campus for over 20 years. Battles, a native Orlando resident, is a retired firefighter/ engineer, and army veteran. He started volunteering because of his enjoyment of teaching adults and high school students interested in becoming an EMT or other related interest in the medical field. Battles has trained thousands of students; he says, βI hope to impart knowledge to individuals who may be instrumental in saving someoneβs life.β Present at the ceremony were Veronica Anderson, CCTS- Health Coordinator and, Ketsia Nortelus, Resource Teacher at Orlando Technical College-South Campus, along with his wife, Jennifer Sankey-Battles, who proudly congratulated Battles for receiving this distinguished award.
