📸 Now presenting…another SAP photo dump!

Our Sustainability Adventure Program students have been exploring the great outdoors, diving into new experiences and discovering the world of green careers. It's tough to capture all the amazing adventures this group has had, but here’s some highlights: snorkeling at Devil’s Den Spring, canoeing down the Peace River, and tent camping near Blowing Rocks Preserve! 🏕🛶🤿

Shout out to Orlando Kidz Zone and the City’s Office of Sustainability & Resilience for making this the best kids program on the planet! 🌎

🏛️🔎 Behind-the-scenes look at Orlando’s justice system! Rock Lake Neighborhood Center students recently shadowed Judge Gisela T. Laurent, Circuit Court Judge at the Orange County Courthouse, learning about her career and how our legal system works. Later, they dug into some Gitto’s Pizza with State Attorney Andrew Bain and got an inside look at his day-to-day.

We love when students discover career paths right in their own backyard! 👩‍⚖️👨‍⚖️

Record year for the Garden Club! 🌱💚 Thanks to our partnership with the City’s Office of Sustainability & Resilience, 120 neighborhood center students grew and harvested over 240 pounds of fresh produce in the 2023-2024 school year, which was then shared with local families.

Huge shout-out to our staff and students at Callahan, Colonialtown, Grand Ave, Hankins, Ivey Lane, Jackson, Northwest, Rock Lake, Smith, and Wadeview! 👏

Hankins Park is turning the big 5-0! 🎂🌳

In 1974, this space was dedicated to Dr. I. Sylvester Hankins, a prominent physician and civil rights advocate for Orlando’s Black community. Recently, Hankins Neighborhood Center staff and students came together for a birthday party, celebrating a half century of fun in the sun.

Happy Birthday, Hankins Park! 🎉

Today, we mourn the loss of Willie Mays, a true giant of baseball whose impact reached far beyond the field. His legacy will forever inspire generations to come. Rest in peace, Willie Mays.

Happy Juneteenth! Students at our Dr. James R. Smith Neighborhood Center reflected on emancipation by designing flags to honor the holiday. Let’s reflect on the past, embrace the journey toward equality, and continue to uplift voices of change!

06/18/2024

In observance of Juneteenth, we will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

This includes all neighborhood centers, summer camps, pools, the Orlando Tennis Centre, and the Orlando Skate Park.

Bill Frederick Park and our Lake Eola swan boats will still be operating.

In observance of Juneteenth, City Hall and non-essential city services will be closed on Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

This day marks the end of slavery in the U.S. on June 19, 1865 and reminds us of the ongoing work needed to build an inclusive and welcoming city for all.

Reminder: Residential trash pick-up will occur as usual.

Wonder and learning at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park! 🦒🎢 Our Sustainability Adventure Program students from Engelwood Kidz Zone had the incredible opportunity to go behind the scenes with Disney's Animals, Science and Environment cast.

The group got an exclusive look at park operations, saw animal keepers in action, and took part in a career panel discussion. Oh, and let’s not forget the roller coasters and all the other fun attractions! 👏

Thank you to Disney for encouraging our students to build their skills and continue to dream big about their futures. You might just be looking at the next generation of scientists, veterinarians, or educators!

Gearing Up for the Best Summer Ever! 🌤️😎

Every year, Recreation staff from across the city come together for a week of summer camp training. Although we love a good team building moment, it’s not all fun and games taking care of your kids. Each counselor learns CPR and first aid plus instruction on social emotional learning and classroom management.

Not to brag, but we think we have some of the BEST 🙌 summer programs in Orlando, and that’s because of our amazing team and families who make it possible! 💙
