To make sure his students are right all the time, and ready for the challenges of their jobs, Professor of Fire Science Chad Williamson came up with a creative solution to a big problem among emerging : gaining and maintaining physical fitness. Chad created a functional training model to provide an answer to the burning question about how to make sure Valencia’s students would be in shape enough to pass state agility testing requirements. Kudos to Jeff Goltz, Executive Dean, School of Public Safety, whose peer-reviewed article was accepted for publication by the International Journal of Education Policy & Leadership.

In October 2020, Valencia College created an Equitable and Just Policing Education and Training Task Force that summoned a curriculum review, redesign and training initiative at our School of Public Safety. The recommendations made by the thirty-member task force guided Valencia to aim to become an “agent of change” in the community by elevating equitable and just law enforcement education and training in central Florida. Jeff chronicled this story and its findings in his article.
