STEAMUP Academy has been hosting a Robotics and Engineering program at HCMS every Monday from 4:15 PM to 5:15 PM in G106. The program offers a wealth of benefits for students, including exposure to 12 different engineering careers. Through hands-on activities, projects and field trips to factories, students will have the opportunity to develop valuable skills and knowledge in the field of robotics and engineering.
Classroom Spotlight: During Hispanic Heritage Month, students in Ms. Febus’s social studies classes focused on Day of the Dead by making an altar. This activity, as well as the archaeology activity shared in a past newsletter, are thanks to donations from the students’ families.

As a close out of Principal Appreciation Week, Ms. Moukaddam was presented with some amazing portraits by HCMS students!
On October 23rd, Teatro for the Soul performed Don Quijote en USA in the library for our Two-Way Dual Language Magnet students. The performance was engaging and truly enjoyed by all!
Next Wednesday is an HCMS AFTER SCHOOL DANCE! $10 includes the dance with DJ, pizza, and a drink! Permission slip, dance guidelines, and dates of ticket sales can all be found on Canvas.

Red Ribbon Week highlights the importance of living a drug-free life. It presents an opportunity for parents, educators, and communities to reinforce drug-free messages.
There will be a two-part workshop for parents who are newcomers to Orange County. In the two sessions you will learn about the Orange County Public Schools educational system. The sessions will be October 30th and November 6th from 5:30-7:00 pm. The sessions will be available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Haitian Creole.

Dear HCMS community,
The results of all of our commitment, dedication and hard work are here: Congratulations on the designation of HCMS, once again, as one of the 2023-2024 Schools of Excellence as recognized by the Florida Department of Education!
Not only did we increase our total percentage points from 2023 to 2024 from 71 to 72 (very few schools increased their percentage points between 2023 and 2024), but we have also increased our final percentile rank between all middle schools in Florida from 83 percentile to 88.2 percentile! We will keep soaring! GO EAGLES!
Save the Date: The Tacos My Guey Spirit Night canceled because of Hurricane Milton has been rescheduled! It will now be October 30th from 6-10pm--hope to see you there!

The OCPS 2024 Fall Stakeholder Survey window will be closing on October 29, 2024. Your input is valuable to us, so please answer 2 questions about your satisfaction with our school as well as providing your opinions on ThoughtExchange. The survey is available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, Arabic, and Portuguese.
Your personal responses will never be shared with anyone in the school, so please provide honest, thoughtful feedback. Your responses will only be reported in combination with other employees’ responses. The data will be used as we work to ensure our school aligns with our core values.
