Welcome to the Osseo Winterguard Page for the 2013-2014 season! What is winterguard? No experience is necessary, but dance or gymnastics is helpful.
The Osseo Winterguard is open to all 8th-12th grade students in the 279 school district who are or are planning on attending either Osseo or Maple Grove senior high schools. Students must be in enrolled in the music program - either band, choir, or orchestra - in order to be eligible to perform. Members of the ensemble dance, manipulate equipment and occasionally utilize props while performing to
a 4 minute long show in a competitive atmosphere. Winterguard is an artistic, athletic, and competitive activity that involves dancing and spinning flags, rifles and sabres to music. Here's a nice video that I showed to the students to give them a visual of what winterguard looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWVHzPbVcJ0
Who is eligible? Girls and boys grades 8-12 who are involved in the music program (band, orchestra or choir) and are or are going to be enrolled at Osseo Senior High or Maple Grove Senior High. We will teach the kids everything they need to know! When does the winterguard rehearse? November: Saturdays 9am-1pm (10th and 17th) and Tuesdays from 5:30-9 (13th, 20th, 27th)
December: Saturdays 5pm-9pm (1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd) and Tuesdays from 5:30-9 and Sundays 11-3 (9th, 16th)
CAMP Dec. 26th and 27th 1pm-9pm
Our January-April schedule will be available soon. All students are expected to attend all scheduled rehearsals. What should students bring to rehearsal? Students should wear form-fitting clothes that allow them to move freely. Everyone should have their own water bottle and it's nice to have a healthy snack too. How much does it cost? This is a big question most of you have. We are not a school sanctioned activity and exist as an offset of the band program. Therefore we have to cover all of our own costs. We keep the costs as low as we possibly can while still giving students a fun and educational experience. The cost will completely depend on how many students are involved. We will do everything we can to keep costs low and we will spread out payments to make it easier on families. We will also provide fundraising opportunities. Please let me know if you have ANY questions at all! If your child comes to the rehearsals and decided that this is something they want to do, we have a parent meeting scheduled for November 27th at 8pm at which time your first installment of $100 is due. I look forward to meeting all of you this Saturday, November 10th!
