Doing braids is about more than just installing a style into a clients head. It’s also about learning the fundamentals of proper weight distribution.
This picture ⬇️ shows an improper braid installation. As you can see, the braid starts off super small then grows in size as she added more braiding hair which makes the weight of the braid have improper weight distribution.
This WILL cause an excessive amount of breakage and stress on the clients hair follicles which can also result in balding (traction alopecia). If enough damage is done to the follicles the client may not regain hair growth in that area.
Be sure to base your installation technique on the density of your clients hair. This means you will have to learn different installation techniques because they are NOT one size fits all.
Braids were made to be a protective style regardless of how you feel about them!
What advice you would give the braider and/or client?
Who has in braids right now? 🙋🏾♀️
What style?
And to the braiders that put the braiding hair in their mouth before putting it in their clients head…
Don’t do that ish NO MO!!! 😒
Idk but crocheting curly pieces in for boho braids just seems lazy to me.
What is your favorite “wash day” product for your hair (shampoo, conditioner, leave in etc)?

🚨 Want to wear braids all summer? Read this!!!
Before your install you should: do a scalp and hair detox with a good clarifying shampoo or hair detoxifying mask, followed by a deep conditioning moisturizing/ protein balancing treatment. 🗣️TRIM YOUR HAIR. If you start off with healthy hair, you will come out with healthy hair.
Wear the braids for 6-8 wks, remove them and take a break for 2-3 weeks with your natural hair only so you can do your haircare/ shampoo day regimen 1x per week during the break. This break is important and how you care for your hair during this time is too!
Then back into braids for 6-8 weeks following the same exact prep steps above. Yes that means it’s time for another trim❗️ don’t let this scare you, your trim schedule should be at minimum every 8 weeks, max 12 weeks. If you are maintaining your trim schedule after the initial trim, you will NOT need to cut as much hair as you did the first time.
While wearing braids you should: Shampoo your braids every 2 weeks while they are in (you can wait 3 weeks after your initial install to do your first shampoo). Apply water based liquid leave in and seal with oil to lock in moisture (do this 2 times per week).
Note: the timeline above is based on Smedium size braids. If you’re wearing small or extra small braids you can wear your braids for 8-10 weeks. Medium size braids 5-6 weeks. Please note that not all braiders have the same sizing chart so I am basing this off of my personal sizing chart. My chart is posted in the comments.

If you had to wear 1 hairstyle for the rest of your life, what would it be?
UNPOPULAR OPINION: any style of faux Locs should only be done if you are willing to pay for the hairstylist to take it down as well to prevent YOU from cutting your own hair.
Clients cutting their hair during the take down is NOT the stylist fault.
It’s Money Making Monday 🙌🏾
Sidenote: I’m making this status as I lay in bed cause it’s my off day 😂 (I don’t even work on Mondays)
YouTube is the most humbling platform 🥴 cause it feels like it takes 20yrs to reach those 4000 watch hours to be monetized 🫠
But I also feel like it’s the most rewarding so I’m going to remain patient and trust Gods timing!
But in other news I hit 20k a few days ago 🙌🏾
