Building respect from the ground up! ๐ฅ๐ In the dojo, kids learn that respect isn't just a word โ it's a core value. Through bowing, following etiquette, and treating their peers and instructors with courtesy, they understand the importance of honoring others. Beyond technique, martial arts instills lifelong values. ๐ช๐ค

Competition can be good for kids. It can motivate them to work harder, develop resilience, learn social skills, set goals, and develop healthy habits.
However, it's important to keep competition in perspective and ensure it is age-appropriate and conducted in a safe and healthy manner.
Children should be encouraged to enjoy the process of competing and focus on personal growth and improvement, rather than just winning at all costs.๐ช
Has anyone actually had a Pinterest project that actually came out the right way?๐
Dino nuggies and Mac and Cheese will never go out of style. ๐
Team bonding is one of our favorite things to do.
This time around, we'd want you to pick.
What's your favorite activity to do with co-workers, friends, and family?
The person who has the best suggestion will win a $5 Starbucks gift card.
Setting goals is a valuable skill for children to learn because it helps them develop self-discipline, motivation, and a sense of accomplishment. To help your child set goals:
1. Make them specific and achievable.
2. Involve your child in the process.
3. Set both short-term and long-term goals.
4. Use positive reinforcement when they reach a goal.
5. Set an example by setting and working towards your own goals.
6. If you can get a picture with a stormtrooper...do it. Immediately.
By following these tips, you can help your child learn the importance of goal setting and develop the skills they need to succeed.
With social media growin more and more very day, it's even more important to discuss the best practices.
Set rules: Establish clear rules for usage and monitor activity.
Educate: Teach your child about online dangers such as cyberbullying, online predators, and the permanent nature of online content.
Emphasize privacy: Explain the importance of keeping personal information, such as full name, address, and phone number, private.
Encourage responsible behavior: Teach your child to think before they post and to treat others online with kindness and respect.
Lead by example: Be a positive role model by practicing good digital citizenship yourself.
Stay involved: Stay informed and involved in your child's online activity to help keep them safe.
Does your child take the easy way out?
Does your child give up easily?
Well..... you may be dealing with a "fixed" mindset rather than a "growth" mindset.
One way to help your child become more growth-minded is to encourage them to take on challenges and to not be afraid of failure.
Help them understand that failure is a natural part of the learning process and can be a valuable opportunity for growth.
Praise their effort and perseverance, rather than just their intelligence or talent. Encourage them to set goals and work towards them, and to reflect on their progress.
Also, model a growth mindset yourself and talk to your child about how you approach challenges and setbacks in your own life.

What would you do with someone trying to kick you?
What would you want your child to do?๐ฎ
.......
One day, at scouts, one of our Black Belts was faced with this.
Another scout started trying to kick him....over and over again!
Most of us would say fight back, and we'd be right! EXCEPT in this situation!
I am so proud of William because he recognized the young man attempting to kick him, didn't have much to hurt him with.
He saw that his skills could hurt the young man.
So he responded with compassion and kindness and SKILL!
He blocked every attempt. He kept his ego out of the moment. He thought his way through it all!
I am so proud of William for recognizing that his skill set was much higher than someone else's and chose to NOT take advantage of that.
He chose compassion and grace!
Did you know that body image distortion is at an all-time high?
This happens when children constantly compare their self-image to those they see on tv and media.
How do we help with this?
First, lots of open communication about how they feel and see themselves. ๐
Second, place importance on improvement rather than perfection.๐
Third, get them involved in something that builds self-image and confidence. ๐
Have you noticed your kiddo comparing themselves to others?
We challenge you to try to change the channel.... ๐
Meditation has so many wonderful benefits for our little ones!
More focus. โ
Better control over emotions. โ
More self-awareness. โ
Below is a tip taken from an article about meditation for kids
"SIMPLE MEDITATIONS FOR KIDS
If youโre looking for simple meditations for kids โ ones that arenโt too complicated โ then consider these activities:
Try incorporating storytelling with meditation. Or, you can even introduce a book about mindfulness and then try to practice a simple breathing technique or meditation with kids.
Try Lotus Breath, which focuses on conscious breathing. You can add certain yoga hand positions (or mudras), songs, etc. to this meditation, while touching the pinkies and thumbs together to make a lotus flower. When you take a deep breath, imagine smelling the flower."
The struggle is real...๐๐ช๐
Royce Gracie took additional time to speak with a group of incredible ladies at his seminar to share a real world scenario that happened. Aside from world class Jiu-Jitsu and a teaching mastery that should be experienced and not explained, there is no one better in the world at demonstrating an actual care for their students.
Ever have the feeling that you're failing as a parent? ๐ญ
Don't worry.... we've ALL felt that way.
There sure isn't an instruction manual included with this stuff either. ๐
There is one thing we know for sure that helps.
That's having a full community of support. ๐ช
Coaches, allies, like-minded parents, and a fun safe environment.
That's martial arts.
Martial arts is life.
The first 10 people to comment on this post with their favorite candy bar will win their favorite candy bar. ๐
Seriously, we're buying. ๐ต
Serious question..... What's the one lesson you wish you could have gotten way earlier in life?
What lesson did you have to learn the hard way? ๐
Please take .02 seconds to share.
It could change someone's whole life. ๐
For me, it's that I don't need to eat until I feel full. I can walk away from a plate and it's ok. I don't need a full plate that I MUST eat and it's ok to not eat it all.
Also for me, it was forward is on the right, backwards on the left. (oictured here after driving my lawn mower down a flight of stairs when I thought I was backing up lol)
This is one of the main reasons we have the best team at our academy.๐
Each one of our instructors has a superpower and is uniquely great at something that the others are weak at.
Best. Team. Ever. ๐ช
MARTIAL ARTS IS A MANDATORY LIFE SKILL:
Activities and sports like Hockey, Baseball, Soccer, Gymnastics, Girl/Boy Scouts etc... are all great hobbies and pastime activities and I let my kids choose whatever activities they want.
I categorize swimming lessons differently; swimming is a life skill and non-negotiable in my house. Sooner or later my children will be exposed to water, (be it a pool, lake, river or ocean) and not having basic swimming skills and confidence around the water will hold them back and could be potentially fatal. They donโt need to be Olympic swimmers but they need enough basic skills to tread water and survive but ideally are competent enough that they donโt have to be nervous or fearful around water.
Now apply that same filter to martial arts.
Itโs a great sport, with all the benefits of traditional sports, but it also teaches self defence which is an essential life skill. In your childโs lifetime, they will almost certainly face the threat of physical violence (often unavoidably and through no fault of their own).
When you are attacked, just like in the water, it doesnโt matter how hard you try, without proper training and technique you will panic, thrash & most likely drown. We put our kids in swimming lessons to prepare them, so they can be in the water without fear and tread water if they get in over their heads.
The day your child gets confronted by a bully ask yourself; have you given them the tools & confidence to stay calm, protect themselves and survive or have they been thrown in the deep end to fend for themselves?
Martial arts is a mandatory life skill.
Change my mind

Teen tips part two:
You will always feel responsible for your childโs wellbeing and safety, no matter how old they are. When children reach their teenage years, they start to make their own decisions.
Sometimes they make the wrong ones. Try to be supportive and not criticise. They will (hopefully!) learn valuable lessons from their mistakes.
During this time of constant change, both parents and young people need to take time to care for themselves. You need to show you value your teenager and their uniqueness โ show them your unconditional love.
