A Grande Vanilla Latte may sound innocent enough—until you realize you've just ingested 35 grams of sugar.

But what does that have to do with my teeth?

Everyone has harmful bacteria in their mouths that eat the sugars we consume. The bacteria get energy from the sugar, but in the process produce acid. The acid they make can damage teeth, causing cavities to form or erosion to occur.

What do sealants do? No, not for letters, for teeth!

Sealants protect against cavities that can form in the natural tiny holes and cracks on the outside of teeth. Kids from about 6 to 12 benefit from having sealants painted and hardened onto the chewing surfaces of their back teeth, or molars.

Adults can get sealants as well to protect teeth that don't have fillings.

Ask us about putting sealants on your teeth, they can be added on your next visit and it's painless. They last around 2-4 years.

Spicy Jalapeño Dip - 🌶

🏈Football on Sunday, planning on the weekend, add this to the list. A dip that will taste great and have some health benefits too!

GAME PLAN:

1 16 oz. tub low-fat sour cream
1 packet of Hidden Valley Ranch (or other brand) Fiesta Dip
1 jalapeño, seeded and cubed (keep the seeds for extra 🔥)

GAME TIME:

1. Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend thoroughly.
2. Serve the dip with raw vegetables such as carrots and celery.

What makes it tooth friendly?

This dip with a kick will make your veggies disappear. Raw veggies require lots of chewing which stimulates and promotes healthy gums. Carrots contain beta-carotene that your body uses to create vitamin A which works to build strong teeth. The sour cream in this dip gives your teeth a boost of Calcium which also helps to keep your teeth strong.

Are teeth the same as bones?

While teeth and bones might appear to be the same material at first glance, they’re actually quite different. Bones can repair and heal themselves, while teeth cannot.

Teeth are more fragile in that respect, which is why it’s so important to practice good dental hygiene and see a dentist regularly.

Let’s talk toothbrushes.

Both manual and powered toothbrushes are effective at removing plaque. (Yay😃) While electric toothbrushes can be more expensive than manual, many people prefer them.

Foe the elderly, people with disabilities, children, or those with dental appliances like braces, many people find a powered toothbrush easier to use.

The consensus recommendation is for people to brush their teeth for two minutes a day with a toothbrush that has soft bristles.

You're right, it's Fact!

Always wear a mouthguard when you play sports! Studies show that athletes are 60 times more likely to suffer harm to the teeth if they're not wearing a mouthguard. It's the smart thing to do for your teeth and your smile.
