Stevenson University's Communication Department is mourning the loss of Business Communication grad Travis Douglas, class of 2014. Travis' life was cut short on May 24 in a Vineland, N.J., shooting. While a student at Stevenson, Travis was noted for his energy, leadership and enthusiasm for sports. He served as a captain of the football and track & field teams, and was credited as one of the founders of M.I.L.E., the Male Initiative of Leadership and Excellence. He was also a member of Phi Beta Lambda, the Black Student Union, Relay for Life, and the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals. A staff writer for The Villager, Stevenson's student news site, Travis's love for Mustang athletics influenced his writing. He was employed by Sigman & Summerfield Associates, Inc., a professional IT staffing company. The Randallstown native is survived by his parents, a sister, and a brother. The Communication Department mourns his passing.

Word has reached Stevenson's Communication department that three of our fabulous alums, Jackie Cooper '17, Morgan Mathis '14, and Jamal Williams, '15, have just earned Masters degrees. Jackie was awarded a Masters of Science degree in Marketing from the Kogod School of Business at American University. Morgan received her M.S. in Health Science Administration from Towson University, which will strengthen her work in marketing at MedStar Health. Our third bit of news came from Jamal, who received a Master's degree from the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park. Congratulations on these amazing achievements!

Harford Designs, LLC Entrepreneur, Owner and Primary Designer

“My role is identifying a client's business needs in terms of visual, written, and sometimes oral communication. We create visual identities and marketing strategies for small business owners so they can get back to running their business instead of spending hours trying to learn design solutions. As an entrepreneur, I regularly put myself in new situations and network in a room of strangers. It can be intimidating at first, but the more I force myself to talk, the easier it becomes. • Stevenson taught me leadership. In 2010-2011, I was able to serve as SGA president and learned the right and wrong way to manage a team. A leader has to be able to delegate and trust their team to complete each task without getting involved in every step. • I studied abroad twice, and those experiences changed my life and my lifestyle. These experiences deepened my independence, resourcefulness, and lust for experiencing cultures the way they were intended. • While it's important to be familiar with your weaknesses, don’t focus on them so much that they hinder the growth of your strengths.”

“I am the Box Office & Programming Coordinator for The Freeman Stage. I am responsible for contract management between The Freeman Stage and the artists we book for each season. • During the season, I oversee all box office and ticketing operations. I also assist the Marketing Department with social media and graphic design. • One of my favorite experiences from Stevenson was the opportunity to be as involved as possible. I was on the executive board of three different organizations and worked two different campus jobs, which opened up opportunities to meet new people and learn valuable skills like time management. • My advice for all SU students who wish to work in the event or entertainment industry is to be able to adapt to all situations and not be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. Until then, enjoy your time at Stevenson, and soak up as many experiences as you can!” — Corrin Harris
