Because no two days are ever the same in this job…and because false information has a way of traveling fast, I want to share the details of this morning. Late afternoon, yesterday, July 18, the contractor employed by the City of Oxford for the Downtown Regional Stormwater Detention Project unearthed what the contractor identified as bones. Immediately, the contractor ceased work and contacted city officials. The remains were located under the asphalt in an area of the project commonly known as the City Grocery Parking Lot and were located approximately 12” to 18” deep. We were able to have archaeologist Dr. Jay Johnson meet us on site this morning. Dr. Johnson identified the bones as those belonging to a cow. In fact, a cow that had been butchered. So, the project goes on.

As with any project, we will take special care to dig carefully and will stop if anything else is uncovered that raises concern.

A tree has fallen across the road at Lamar Park cause lines to be pulled down. Country Club Rd is closed in both directions in that area.

We want to congratulate the OPD Lawfit team for a great showing at Lawfit 2024 in Flowood! 💪

Lawfit is a 3 day competition where officers from all around the state compete in various fitness competitions. 🏋️‍♀️🏋️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

‼️*PUPDATE* this sweet baby is doing well! He had no broken bones, just some wounds that looked worse than what they were. He is at our shelter healing and on medication. If anyone is interested in fostering during the healing process, please DM us!‼️

This dog was found hit on highway 6 near Chucky Mullins. If this is your dog please reach out to us ASAP! It is not in good condition!
