Where The Wild Things Grow
Apothecary utilizing traditional ancestral knowledge, biohacking health rooted in nature's teachings. I'm not just your average person; I'm a nature geek!
like many of you, I wear many hats. I'm a wife, mom of three amazing kids, and I basically run a mini farm and magical garden. Oh, and I'm also a neighborhood herbalist and teach classes about old school skills. But wait, it gets better – I wasn't born here; I came all the way from beautiful Bavaria in Germany. Picture me growing up surrounded by green hills and deep forests. My childhood adventur
We have an abundance of violets this year. They're popping up everywhere!
🪻Wild violets have various medicinal uses, such as treating respiratory ailments, soothing skin conditions, and even acting as a mild pain reliever.
🪻Their leaves and flowers can be used in teas, poultices, or salves for these purposes.
🪻Additionally, they contain antioxidants and vitamins, making them beneficial for overall health.
Today, we're making rose water and oil!
What I love most about herbalism is that we never stop learning. There's always something new to explore
Staking out some trails for foraging & herbal walks we'll be hosting
The henbit is blooming. Did you know it's rich in Vitamins A, C, E, and K and it boosts Iron and Magnesium, too!
Traditionally, it's been used as anti-inflammatory, and to relieve chronic pain, soreness and stiffness.
It makes a beautiful salve and tincture, but is great fresh in a salad or as a tea, as well.
Though it's in the mint family, it tastes nothing like it. In fact, it's just an earthy "green" and sweet taste.

Fresh green salad. 💚 y'all, this mix of kale, arugula, and chickw**d is ON POINT!
Though we still have cool-ish days and cold nights, the spring plants are starting to pop up, grounds are turning green, and things are coming alive!
It's time to get your hands in the dirt, toes in the ground, and face held up into the sun.
Soak up some vitamin D, do some grounding, and connect with nature.
Basil is amazing!
Not only does it make a great companion plant during our hot summers, brings in pollinators, and smells amazing...
When it's time to harvest, it makes great tea, seasoning, infused oils, etc.
Basil has been found to help with diabetes, bacterial growth, and arthritis. It has also been found to be beneficial with managing stress, reducing swelling, boosting the immune system, and enhancing heart health.
Y'all, I just opened a jar of Okra from 3 years ago. I made the mistake of not labeling what exactly the jar entailed, but at least I had a date on it.
Well, I'm happy to report it's delicious, pickled okra. It seems I added garlic and tabasco peppers to the jar. Hence the color.
IT'S DELICIOUS!

Reasons you should plant calendula
1) calendula is a vibrant flowering plant with medicinal and culinary uses. Its bright orange or yellow petals contain compounds believed to have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.
2) Commonly used in traditional medicine, calendula extracts are found in various skincare products for their potential skin-soothing benefits.
3) Additionally, the plant has been historically used in culinary applications, adding color and a mild, tangy flavor to salads, soups, and teas.
4) beautiful pop of color during cooler months
Thoughts? What would be helpful? I've had homeschooling groups, church groups, hiking groups, etc reach out for private classes. It got me thinking, there may be a need for custom workshops.
What would you like to see? We could host at your church, home, a park, local business, etc. Tea parties, birthday and more.
Walks, hikes, workshops, private classes & consultations, ....
So many options
If you see this, I want to know: WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
1) A home apothecary is a personalized space where you can cultivate and store natural remedies, herbs, and holistic ingredients for health and well-being.
2) It serves as a DIY haven for crafting herbal infusions, tinctures, and salves, allowing exploration into alternative approaches to self-care.
3) Whether it's dried herbs in jars, essential oils, or herbal teas, a home apothecary reflects a commitment to harnessing the healing power of nature within the comforts of one's home.

We're planning on monthly in-person workshops locally at Pace Wellness Center and will be posting videos along the way as well.
In January we are focusing on cooking from scratch. so in this video I talk abit about the plan forward and I show you how I render a bit of lard.
WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! What would be a valuable workshop to close out January in the spirit of cooking from scratch? I'm thinking potluck alongside some learning.
I'm one of the lucky ones! I grew up foraging, baking & cooking from scratch, knitting & sewing...
For the longest time, I felt like I didn't fit in anywhere until I started piecing together a community of like-minded people. Mind you, many of those are spread all over the country, and even globally.
Are you looking for a community where we can all learn together and from each other? In 2024, we will add new skills, and deepen existing ones.
The plan is to start with one new skill a month and build from there. Absolute beginners through more advanced.
This guide is for you if you’re looking to:
- Learn new skills
- Build upon existing skills
- Learn from each other
- Build Community
I'm so excited to learn with you!

Hi, I'm Nicole
I'm 41
I was born and raised in Germany
I grew up learning foraging and herbalism from my WWII survivor grandparents

I have 3 kids (26, 15, and 12)
I only bake cookies once a year.
I love a good slice of fresh bread.
Now, I'm finding my way home again into nature, and I'm sharing my learnings with you.

It's that time of year. Even I get sick 😫
I've been taking it easy, hydrating with water and broth and I've had to force feed myself due to appetite loss, feeling weak because of it.
Lucky for me, the husband and kids can take care of themselves, so all I have to worry about is ME.
What are some of your go to foods when you don't have the strength to cook, but need to feed yourself?
I'm not just your average person; I'm a nature geek!
like many of you, I wear many hats. I'm a wife, mom of three amazing kids, and I basically run a mini farm and magical garden. Oh, and I'm also a neighborhood herbalist and teach classes about old school skills.
But wait, it gets better – I wasn't born here; I came all the way from beautiful Bavaria in Germany. Picture me growing up surrounded by green hills and deep forests. My childhood adventures and chores included Foraging for food and herbs! It was like having a secret mission every day.
Now, here's the wild part: Nature totally blew my mind! I got hooked on how it can heal us, with a combination of using nature’s bounty as a healing agent and the immersion in nature.
So, now I'm on a mission to show everyone the magic
of plants and how they're like nature's little
medicine cabinets.
Join me on this fun journey where we explore
herbs, plant secrets, and maybe even find a few plant
superheroes along the way.
Let’s explore together!
