CYS' Board President asked ChatGPT: Write a sitcom featuring musicians of the California Youth Symphony.
Title: Symphony Shenanigans
Opening Scene:
We see a group of teenage musicians walking into the California Youth Symphony rehearsal room, carrying their instruments. They all take their seats, and the conductor walks in, ready to start the rehearsal.
Conductor: Good morning, everyone. Let's start with the first movement of Mozart's Symphony No. 40.
As the orchestra starts playing, we see some of the musicians looking tired and sleepy. Suddenly, a loud farting sound is heard from one of the brass players.
Brass Player: Oops, sorry, that was me!
The other musicians start giggling, and the conductor shakes his head in disbelief.
Conductor: Alright, let's take a break. This rehearsal isn't going anywhere.
The musicians all get up and start talking to each other.
Main Characters:
Alex: a violinist who takes herself too seriously and is constantly trying to impress everyone.
Max: a trumpet player who is the class clown and always trying to make people laugh.
Olivia: a cellist who is very shy and introverted but has a beautiful voice when she sings.
Tony: a percussionist who is always making beats and rhythms with everything he can find, even when he's not playing in the orchestra.
Maria: a flutist who is very organized and likes to plan everything in advance.
Plot:
Every episode of Symphony Shenanigans revolves around the daily lives of these five musicians. They have to balance their schoolwork, rehearsals, and personal lives, which often leads to hilarious situations.
For example, in one episode, Alex gets a zit on her face the day before a big performance and spends the entire episode trying to hide it. Max keeps making jokes about it, which only makes her more self-conscious.
In another episode, Olivia is asked to sing at a school talent show but is too nervous to perform. With the help of her friends, she overcomes her shyness and sings a beautiful rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
In yet another episode, Tony creates a percussion piece using only kitchen utensils, but accidentally breaks a plate in the process. He and Maria spend the entire episode trying to replace the broken plate before Tony's mom finds out.
Throughout the series, we see the characters grow and learn from each other, all while making us laugh with their silly antics and musical mishaps.
Closing Scene:
We see the orchestra performing in a concert hall, with the characters in their formal attire, playing their hearts out. As the music comes to an end, the audience gives them a standing ovation. The musicians look at each other and smile, knowing that they couldn't have done it without each other. They walk offstage together, ready for their next adventure.
Just one month left until 23-24 season auditions close! There's still time to start practicing now! www.cys.org/auditions.

We stumbled on this gem from Ronald Reagan, praising the CYS students for their "reputations as polished musicians." We're so proud of the legacy of excellence in CYS through the years and it's amazing to see recognition from such a prominent figure. This letter is from Reagan as California Governor (1967–1975)!
