Thanksgiving is a day many of us will be gathering around the table with our family or chosen family. For some, the day is one of our favorite days of the year. For others, it is an incredibly triggering day. And some fall somewhere between the two ends of the spectrum.

I'm a firm believer in recognizing our role in life and handling that role the best we can. With that in mind, I wanted to send some encouragement to you. The holidays are some of the best opportunities for us to help us carry this movement of telling others they matter forward.

Tell people they matter to you every opportunity you get tomorrow and through the rest of the season. Use the day that's intention is gratitude to show gratitude to those around you. Here are a few ideas you can practice:

❤️ Send a text to everyone you can think of (individually) and tell them one reason you're grateful for them.

❤️ If you are gathering with people, be sure to tell them you love them and are grateful for them.

❤️ If someone is hosting you, help with clean up, and let them know how much you appreciate the space to gather.

❤️ Think of someone you know that may be having a hard time during this season. Send them a message and tell them that you're thinking of them and that you're grateful to know them.

❤️ If you notice someone is overwhelmed or on the outside of the group, take time to let them know that you see them and you're happy they've made the effort to come.

Make tomorrow better for people. Show up for the people you love.

What three questions do we ask in the IMPACT book and why?

The first question: 'What is your favorite memory with [recipient]?'

This section is such a fun start to the whole book. We've seen people burst out laughing, tear up, or even get the sweetest smile as they reminisce over pages of memories with those closest to them.

The second question: 'How has [recipient] impacted your life?'

The answers to this question are the words most people don't say until the funeral. These are some of the most important and inspiring words people could ever hear, yet these are the things we forget to tell them.

(This is our favorite question of the three because this is the question that shows the receiver of the book the mark that they are making on the world.)

The third question: 'How has [recipient] helped you?'

Sometimes people don't realize that the things they've helped us in throughout our lives have impacted us so much. This question has gotten answers of emotional, physical, or even spiritual help. It's always so encouraging to realize that what you're doing is being noticed by others.

After the period for submissions, we go through all of the answers, do a light grammar check on them, and then split them into three categories⎯creating chapters for the book.

A lot of intention and thought went into how this book was laid out.

The memories are first to help the recipient see how others remember them fondly and remind them of their beautiful relationships with these people.

The impact section is second to allow them to see how their life is making a difference in the lives of others.

The helped section is last because we wanted people to know how they've helped others, but we didn't want people to think their value came from what they've done for others.

Years before I started IMPACT, I had a blog where I would occasionally share a post called Living Eulogy. I would highlight an individual in my life that had made an impact that I felt needed to hear about the difference they made.

I called it Living Eulogy because I started to notice that, all too often, we waited until someone had passed before we discussed or talked about how much they added to our lives or how much they'd changed us for the better.

Here is what I wrote in my original post about the Living Eulogy series on June 29th, 2015: 'So often, people never hear how important they are. They never realize that the one time they stopped by, just out of the blue, just made your day. Or the one time they smiled and asked you how you were doing was just what you needed. Or the amount of time and hours they've spent on the phone with you; you needed every one of those moments. ... This is a living eulogy. This is a time for me to say just how important someone is to me. What they have done in my life. Why they matter. The difference they are making.'

The problem with eulogies is that often these people had NO idea about the way they touched our lives. So many of us go through life wondering if what we're doing is actually making a difference. Many of us wonder how much we'll be missed when we move on. Some of us are convinced the world wouldn't change if we weren't here. The moment we pass away seems to be the moment that what we added to the world starts being discussed.

I felt like this was a problem I could help to solve. What if we started normalizing telling people they are making a difference in our lives now? I made the first IMPACT book in 2014 for my husband, then started this blog series, then realized I could make a way for others to create those books for people they loved and wanted to encourage. Since the birth of the IMPACT book, we've added other products and started to offer . Our opportunities as a company keep expanding to include more ways to share love.

A lot has changed since that day in June when I set out to tell people they matter on my blog... and I'm so incredibly grateful for this small business.
