We're closed today, but here's a look at what's ahead for daily programs at SCCM! 11/20 “Bowwow Powoww” read by Joseph Bodle
11/27 “The Story of Fast Runner” read by the ECLD Team

About the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians:
The citizens of the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians (Tribe) are the people of northern Los Angeles County. After thousands of years, foreign powers began colonization in the late 1770s with the arrival of the Spanish followed by the establishment of Mexico and the United States. Despite settler colonization, the Tribe continues to operate as a tribal community.

The Tribe originates in the lineages, villages, and cultures of the period that came before the establishment of Mission San Fernando in 1797, from which their ancestors received the name Fernandeño during enslavement by the Spanish. The Native Americans that were taken to the Mission originally inhabited the villages originating in the Simi, San Fernando, Santa Clarita, and Antelope Valleys. After the Mission period, they became known as the Fernandeño historical Indian tribe. The Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians is comprised of the descendants of that historical tribe of Fernandeños.

"I’ve got some green, I’ve got some blue.
Some have asked, “So what are you?”
Not quite blue, not fully green.
I’m something new. I’m in-between."

Have you ever felt in between? Join us on Saturday, September 30 at 10 AM for a joyful and introspective picture book reading and draw-along with "Mostly Me" author Collin Hall and illustrator Crystal Dawn Chaffee! "Mostly Me" navigates biracial identity and follows a blue-green narrator on a journey of self-discovery. Written in playful rhyme, Mostly Me is an ode to readers of all ages who have felt out of place, questioning who they are. Navigating oft-asked questions like “Who am I? Do I belong?”, readers discover the most empowering answer of all: “I’m mostly me.” Written and illustrated by two biracial storytellers, author Collin Hall and artist Crystal Dawn Chaffee, this book creates a vibrant and uplifting message for anyone who feels like they're in between.
