HAPPY PUB DAY🎉🥳 Wishing a very happy Publication Day to KEEPING QUIET by Adriana Páramo. In KEEPING QUIET, Páramo has collected essays addressing what it is like to live in a world of silence or the absence thereof. Crossing the borders between art and yoga, between research and drunkenness, between despair and triumph, Páramo weaves the intimate and personal with what is upsetting in women’s health industry.

A truth that does not get acknowledged enough—all writing comes from other writing. Here’s one of many poems that inspired 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘮. Robert Frost first published “Too Anxious for Rivers” with its unusual and ancient dactyls in 1947 in his book 𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘉𝘶𝘴𝘩. I have thought more about this poem than any other since my high school English teacher, Mr. Rapaport, assigned it when I was seventeen. It continues to unfold and reinvent itself almost daily. It is unendingly enchanting. I imagine the reference to Hindu mythology surprised a few people in post-war America. Apologies to the bass anglers who must have found it odd to see me in a business suit while driven around in an old jon boat. And much thanks to my father-in-law for driving the boat, filming, and all the hours on the water. “Then what of this river that having arisen / Must find where to pour itself into and empty?” 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘮 is available from wherever you buy books 5 days from today. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Here’s the video for the poem “The Quieting Muses” from my book 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘮, which will be published one week from today by . This pays a small homage to Plath’s “The Disquieting Muses.” Apologies to the sunbathers who wondered about the guy walking around the beach in a business suit. About the poem from the book’s notes section: “John Coltrane (1926–1967) replaced Sonny Rollins (1930– ) in the Miles Davis (1926–1991) Quintet in 1955 and played with the band until 1960.” Look for more videos with glimpses into 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘮 in the coming weeks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
