Permission from the owner to post ❤️this is a sweet girl named Buttercup we had over the weekend. She was up pacing and I brought her some blankets and a pillow and this beautiful girl snuggled right in and made herself at home:) she may have gotten some technician snuggles too 🙂 we want our patients to be as comfortable as possible in our care
Beach Safety Tips for your pets:
Make sure they have fresh water to drink
They need a cool shaded area to rest
Keep pets away from the dunes as rattlesnakes are very common to the area
Make sure your pet is taking breaks from playing as they can overheat very quick in the hot humid air
Salt water is not good for them and too much can be fatal as it can imbalance their electrolytes
Rip currents are dangerous so make sure your pet has a life vest if they like to swim a lot
Have an emergency plan in place and know the closest emergency facility for your pet
Remember our c-section babies a few months ago? They are living their best life!
Here at Pearland 288 we know many of our clients own pets other than dogs and cats so here are some helpful summer tips to keep your egg layers cool!
As we enter Hurricane season, please make sure you have an emergency plan for your pets as well
Temperatures are rising outside and it only takes a minute for your pet to overheat! Bulldogs are especially susceptible to heat stroke due to their narrowed nasal passages and trachea.
Microchipping FAQ Get answers to frequently asked questions about microchipping of animals.
The heat index is supposed to be at 114 degrees today in the Houston area. Please keep your pets indoors and be mindful of their time in the heat, it only takes 5 minutes for a dog to show signs of a heat stroke. If you are taking your pet to the beach make sure the have shade and fresh water: drinking salt water can be fatal in large amounts.
If you suspect your dog is having a heat stroke contact the nearest emergency facility ASAP.
With all this rain snakes are moving to higher ground, be diligent while walking your furry friends!
Beware of Bifenthrin! 🪲 Here's what you should know:
Bifenthrin is a common insecticide used professionally and privately to reduce the insect population in the area in which it is spread. Bifenthrin can be found in many different forms, including granules, sprays, and aerosols. This insecticide is often seen in fire ant baits and can be purchased at most hardware or lawn and garden stores. Dogs are very sensitive to bifenthrin and can develop vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, weakness or difficulty walking, tremors, and seizures. Always be mindful of what is being sprayed in or around your yard and keep all lawn and garden supplies secured from your pet. If your pet is demonstrating signs consistent with a bifenthrin exposure or you suspect an exposure has occurred, contact Pet Poison Helpline and seek immediate veterinary care.
Snake bite season has arrived!
A few things to know about snake bite and your dog:
1. It is extremely painful
2. Certain snakes can cause necrosis of the skin due to swelling.
3. Some snake bites cause clotting issues leading to bleeding issues in your dog.
If you think your pet was bit by a venomous snake please have them seen by a vet ASAP. There is alot of misleading information on the internet on how to treat at home but this is a very serious matter for your pet and if not treated can often be fatal. Antivenin is available for your pets and it can drastically reduce the effects of snake bites. Please have your pets evaluated by a veterinarian so they can be treated.
