Research Shows These 4 Habits Predict The End Of A Relationship Beware these so-called Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
"John Gottman from the Gottman Institute has done extensive research regarding relationships and what makes them happy.
One of the more interesting findings is about the magic ratio. After examining couples and how they dealt with conflict, it seemed that happy couples for who love lasts show five positive interactions for each negative one.
[...]So, let’s say there is a conflict between a couple where one criticizes the other. Then, to resolve this conflict they can try positive interactions, which for example are showing empathy, apologizing, being affectionate, showing appreciation or interest."

How is it that when it comes to everything else we do, we are given a second chance, and oftentimes multiple chances. Yet, when it comes to ourselves, we are ready to throw in the towel with the first attempt if the outcome is unfavorable. Discontinuing the practice of rigid, black and white thinking while challenging those cognitive distortions is a positive and realistic way to shift your perspective. Give us a call and let us assist you with challenging those thoughts...

When should you explore couples counseling?
We typically feel most confident in areas of our lives where we have support, and our relationships are no different. Research shows that couples who seek help early have the best chance of thriving even during difficult times. It can be especially helpful to seek guidance for yourself and your loved one during big life events and transitions.
Working with a trained professional is an investment in your relationship and overall well-being. On the Gottman Relationship Blog, Terri A. Ammirati, LCPC (Ammirati Counseling) offers tips to help you seek support for your relationship: https://bit.ly/2Zv2UW5

Self-care Saturday Reflections ..
"Strength is subjective. It derives from within. It's inaudible, invisible, and, oftentimes, indescribable, yet it exists. You know what it sounds like, looks like, and feels like. Don't forget that! That's your strength!" Continue making it a great day!!!
The mind is a powerful, creative energy. Everything we think, do, and feel beings in the mind. For this reason, we have to address the thoughts, beliefs, judgments, learnings, and perceptions that we hold in our minds.

Ready for Change? Just Being Ourselves Psychotherapeutic Solutions is here to navigate change with you.
Like any skill, becoming a strong listener takes practice.
It can be eye-opening to reflect on your conversation habits. Are you listening to understand or simply to respond? Do you spend more time talking than listening?
By splitting your attention, interrupting, or assuming you know what your partner is thinking, you shut down opportunities for discovery.
Staying curious and receptive does not mean condoning a particular behavior or always being on the same page. It's possible to validate your loved one's perspective without agreeing. Working to make each other feel seen and heard is key.
