Sometimes the community seeks expert insight, and today WKRG turned to Melissa Dow, a Visiting Assistant Instructor in the UWF Reubin O'D. Askew Department of Government CASSH, for her expertise. The University of West Florida Dr. Grier Williams School of Music will present Ramel Price, adjunct professor of violin, on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be held in the UWF CFPA Music Hall, Building 82, on the Pensacola campus.
Price is a doctoral fellow at the University of Iowa and holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from UWF. Price will challenge himself in this recital through various complex pieces from notable composers, including Bach and Paganini. Pianist Meredith Stemen will accompany Price to explore complex lyrical and technical melodies throughout this recital.

Join UWF Campus Culture and Access for Campus Conversations: ArgosExpress, a series of lunchtime workshops exploring the many facets of the freedom of expression, from its philosophical foundations to its role in democracy and higher education. TOMORROW! Join us at The Art Gallery UWF for the Draw Together Artist Workshop with Jarrod Goldman on Wednesday, October 30th, between 5 and 8 p.m.
Draw Together is an exhibition designed to bring UWF and surrounding communities together to engage in a collaborative art-making process. As a living exhibition, the art and curation of the gallery space will continue to progress as local artists, students, faculty, and other community members contribute to the show.
Visitors can attend special evening workshops between 5 and 8 p.m. tomorrow night and on November 6th and 13th, as well as impromptu daytime workshops led by Jarrod Goldman, the artist behind this show's concept.

This past summer, 13 talented UWF Music students immersed themselves in a unique study abroad experience at the Blas International Summer School of Irish Traditional Music and Dance at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick in Eastern Ireland.
Inspired by their journey, the Summer 2024 Irish Experience cohort has crafted a collection of evolving works that blend music and spoken word. Their performances, featuring both solo and group pieces, offer a deep dive into traditional Irish culture, showcasing the remarkable training they received abroad.✨

Join the Pensacola Museum of Art Thursday, November 7th for a special presentation and tour of the Celebrate 70 Exhibition, currently on view on the 2nd floor of the PMA. The content of this presentation will focus on the importance of art, culture, and stewarding museum collections for the community.
This fall, the PMA is commemorating seven decades of public engagement by hosting a series of events celebrating the shared experiences and cultural connections that have been built through art in our city. These programs, centered around the museum’s permanent collection, will educate the local residents and regional tourists on the museum’s diverse offerings and offer opportunities for the community to be part of this story and leave their legacy.
In addition to a week of free entry into the museum (Nov. 1 – 10), the PMA will host the following:

On Wednesday, October 9th, the UWF Department of History & Philosophy , in collaboration with the UWF Department of Anthropology and Archaeology Institute and the University Archives in the UWF Libraries, hosted "A Night in the Archive." This unique event brought together approximately 35 attendees, including faculty and graduate students from both disciplines, for an evening filled with camaraderie and thought-provoking conversation.
The event provided a rich opportunity to explore the diverse resources available in the University Archives, sparking discussions on how these materials can further academic research and enhance learning experiences. Attendees delved into the potential of archival work within their respective fields and shared ideas for future interdisciplinary collaboration.

On October 3rd, Dr. John Worth delivered a fascinating presentation at the UWF Department of Anthropology and Archaeology Institute , sharing new findings from the 1559 Luna settlement site. He highlighted Spain’s 16th-century attempt to settle on Florida's Gulf Coast and discussed future research plans.
The excitement continued as Dr. Worth, Christina Bolte, and a team of students and volunteers explored the site under a demolished 1930s house. They discovered artifacts, including Native American pottery and a rare crossbow bolt tip, further revealing the history of the Luna settlement. We look forward to sharing more discoveries as the work progresses!

From October 10-12, UWF Department of History & Philosophy proudly hosted the 42nd annual meeting of the Gulf South History and Humanities Association, held across UWF’s Historic Trust properties. The event was a vibrant gathering of scholars, students, and professionals, fostering rich discussions and new insights into the history and humanities of the Gulf South region.
The conference featured 17 paper sessions, each offering a deep dive into various historical and cultural topics. One of the highlights was a special poster session showcasing student research from Instructor Charles Cox’s "The Colonial Gulf South" course, demonstrating the impressive scholarship emerging from UWF students.
A key moment of the conference was the keynote address by Dr. William Lees, retired Executive Director of the Florida Public Archaeology Network. Dr. Lees captivated the audience with his presentation on Civil War archaeological findings in and around Pensacola, shedding light on the region’s rich historical significance.
The event concluded with a memorable field trip to Ft. Pickens, where attendees enjoyed a guided tour by recent UWF MA History graduate David Meron. The ferry trip to the fort was a fitting end to a conference that blended academic rigor with hands-on historical exploration.
On October 15, 2024, the Department of Communication hosted a successful Internship Fair, welcoming a diverse group of 19 affiliates offering opportunities to our Communication students.
Throughout the event, many students visited the tables, eager to engage with the affiliates and explore the various internship opportunities available. Internships are one of the many High-Impact Practices offered by our college, providing students with hands-on experience that enriches their academic journey.
The event also saw a strong showing of support from the CASSH Dean's Office and Communication Department, including Dean Earle, Associate Dean Wells, and Assistant Dean Sabeti, the Department Chair, Dr. Kelly Carr, and the Internship Coordinator, Laura Kirby, who were all seen visiting affiliate tables to thank them for their continued support of our students.
