They're gonna love these today!
I TRULY appreciate the opportunity to be a part of this. Special thank you to Randee Blickenstaff and Jenny Parkhurst of the Peoria Riverfront Museum for making sure that we had what we needed to be successful.
While our presence may have added to the experience, this was a major opportunity for visibility to Reservations as a catering company and our future restaurant!
Our crew, Anita, Bobby, Ayanna, Adam and Arianna have had a great time meeting members, new friends, servicing the community through the Museum and enjoying the music while doing so.
Whether it be more of the private events, or PRM sponsored events, we look forward to working with you in the future!
Its been a great time getting to know so many new people over the summer, but tomorrow is the last Rhumboogie on the Plaza for the Season!

In the 2nd installment Rhumboogie on the Plaza, we're going to what is my favorite city outside of Peoria, Chicago, where the Bronzeville neighborhood is located.
Until I was around 8 or 9 years old, my Great Grandmother, the late Valeska Hinton lived in the Hyde Park Neighborhood in Chicago. From her condo, we had a partial view of the Lake, neighborhood, and a sliver of buildings which may or may not have been downtown as I get older and memory is fuzzy...Who knows? Ha!
That was great, but it was the happenings on the streets and surrounding neighborhoods that got me! We walked to the beach and the museum in Hyde Park, and when we got in town, my Mom and Uncle always went to Lems BBQ, (which to me was the Chicago version of Big John's and Gulley's on MacArthur Hwy for those that remember), a few blocks south.
Bronzeville, just northwest of Hyde Park, which the likes of Louis Armstrong and Gwendolyn Brooks resided in, is considered by some to be the original Harlem. It was the epicenter of Black culture and finance in Chicago and the North. It was home to the Chicago Defender, the first African American publication to reach a subscription list of over 100,000.
With the second Rhumboogie on the Plaza, I want to celebrate my deep love of Chicago and the food of the city with Ribs and Rib Tips with fries like I got at Lems or Alice's. We'll have Grilled Polishes like at a small place like Tony's or Jim's on Union. For the Pescitarians, we'll have more salmon since it went so well the last time around, as well as sides like Mac-n-Cheese, Baked Beans, grilled veggies, fruit and more!
We hope everyone comes out and visits Preston Jackson's "Bronzeville to Harlem" Exhibit, the music and food right on the Riverfront!

This is what they mean by "Let the drummer get some!"
With this first installment of the Rhumboogie on the Plaza series, we've decided to take the food experience to Harlem and celebrate the West Indian Culture that heavily permeated the community during the Harlem Renaissance and became intertwined with the neighborhood.
After being settled by the Dutch and other European countries, the early 1900's Harlem saw a migration of Southerners and an even larger influx of immigrants from St. Kitts, Antigua and other West Indian countries.
During the later 1900's, and to this day, the West Indian culture is deeply embedded in the neighborhood. In the many times that I've visited, I walk through and stop at The Golden Crust on 125th to grab a Beef Patty. I also stumbled upon Jacobs, a Caribbean Soul Food Buffet, on Malcom X Blvd that I fell in love with. It's a down home kind of place with good food!
With visiting and then later living in Northern New Jersey, in the metro NYC area, I was surrounded by Caribbean culture, but since my first visit to Atlanta in the 90's, the Jamaicans made me feel as if I could be a part of their tribe. Ha! Whether stateside or on the island, they've shared some stories, history and as it pertains to this event....some of THE RECIPES!
All of this is to say that, we'll be serving our Jerk chicken (which has become popular with many of our catering clients), Jerk Salmon, both served with traditional Rice and Peas and Cabbage or our Curried Veggie Skewers. We'll also have fruit cups ans Rudy Rum Punch available.
We hope that everyone in Central Illinois comes out and enjoys the Museum, music and food!
Thank you to the Peoria Riverfront Museum for this partnership!
As one who's spent time in Bronzeville and Harlem, two cultural epicenters for commerce, music and fashion, we're proud to be a part of this celebration inspired by Mr. Jackson's exhibit at our beautiful museum.
On the fly, he decided to put together a surprise party with close friends and family for his wife's 50th and reached out.
For the in-home experience, he wanted good, comfort food and asked for our signature Shrimp and Grits and Soul Food Eggrolls, some Nashville Hot Chicken, Grilled Lamb Chops w/ Buerre Rouge with a touch of cream and my Garlic/Parm/Truffle Fries. The birthday girl was satisfied.
Thanks to my right hand, Anita for capturing the photos and video on the fly because I always forget. Ha!
Last night was a great time at the Peoria Riverfront Museum for the Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce's Welcoming Ceremony of their Annual Convention. It's a great opportunity for Black Businesses from across the state to network, share information and support other businesses.
We want to thank the Organization, Janice Ivory, Kenyatta Fisher and Larry Ivory for allowing us to be a part of this and provide the catering services again this year!
Also, thank you to Sample and Mills for providing the tasty Snickerdoodle Cupcakes as well as Kamiya and Towanna Wyatt for those amazing Cheesecake shooters!
