Marbles and Play Dough Engineering Challenge. Two different ways to build a marble run out of play dough - love this STEM challenge!

This week we are diving into ENGINEERING at the HOUSE! Engineering is what connects the disciplines. Engineers seek solutions to problems then apply scientific knowledge and mathematics to design, build, and maintain technologies to solve the problems. Our students love this week’s challenges!

The Parent Mentor Program will be hosting another informational meeting at the Peoria Friendship House on Wednesday August 21st from 9:30-11:00AM.

After school STEAMS Academy offers homework lab and MobyMax courses to help students practice and prepare for grade level success!

Today’s STEAMS technology activity was designing a camera and being able to “take photos” with it. They were able to customize the camera “take pictures” and slide through the photos!

Yesterday the Peoria Area World Affairs Council (PAWAC) and East Peoria Chamber of Commerce welcomed the Ambassador Reyna Torres Mendivil of Mexico & Consul General Madeleine Féquière of Canada to present on Illinois’ impact on trade within North America. 🇺🇸🇲🇽🇨🇦 Representatives from our LaFamilia Outreach Program joined the group for a wonderful luncheon.

We are so excited to see everyone back for our after school STEAMS Academy! Students are focused on Science this week. You have two glasses of water—one empty and one full. You want to pour half of the full glass into the empty one. The twist? You aren't allowed to pick up either glass! Can you get the water to "walk" between the glasses using nothing but a paper towel?! 💡

Peoria Friendship House Parent Mentor Program is currently recruiting for our upcoming school year! Our team is at Lincoln today for registration. We will have an informational meeting for all interested parents on Friday, August 2nd at 11 am at Peoria Friendship House.

Parent Mentors, help fill persistent equity gaps by volunteering in classrooms for 2 hours/day for at least 100 hours per semester. Parents earn $1500 stipends for every 100 hours worked. The Parent Mentors are supported by weekly training in classroom instructional practices and leadership training. As a result, they support each other to pursue their goals and unite the school community for long term change.

The OSF Innovation STEAM team had a blast at the Peoria Friendship House of Christian Service summer camp last week! Students explored through play and activities to learn about malaria, physical therapy, germs and innovation. ☀️💡We are truly grateful for our continued partnership!
