Just sharing what little info I know on the CSO project. They are continuing down the even side of Mary down to Adams Street. Then they will start at Glendale on Caroline on one side of the street all the way down to Adams again. They are paving the driveways which were removed on Monroe. The pavers won't be in until August 15th so these open sections of the streets are going to have gravel in them but won't be finished until the pavers get in.

ity Reminds Residents and Businesses to Clear Snow off Sidewalks

Snow-Covered Sidewalks Present a Danger to Pedestrians, Wheelchairs, and Those Who Push Strollers

February 10, 2022 (Peoria, IL) Many Peoria residents rely on sidewalks as a safe way to get around the City. Unfortunately, many sidewalks are still snow-covered from last week’s storm. The City wants to remind businesses and residents to clear sidewalks for the safety of our community.

Following a snowfall, it is the responsibility of the residential or commercial property owner to clear sidewalks. Neglecting to clear sidewalks can result in residents having to walk in the streets, resulting in a dangerous situation for the pedestrian and persons traveling in vehicles. Superintendent of Streets Sie Maroon noted, “We’re still seeing snow-covered sidewalks in the commercial corridors which creates a safety issue for pedestrians, people using wheelchairs, or others using strollers.” He continued, “Please take advantage of these seasonal temperatures and clear off those sidewalks for the safety of everyone in our community.”

Under City Ordinance Number 17268, all commercial property owners, including businesses, public and private schools, hospitals, and churches must remove snow from sidewalks on the public right-of-way adjacent to their business within 24 hours after the snow stops falling when accumulations are less than six inches and within 36 hours when accumulations are six inches or more. If another snow event occurs, the clock is reset to the end of the most recent snow event.

Snow must be removed from the sidewalk allowing a four-foot-wide path (at a minimum) to accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. Noncompliance could result in a civil penalty of $50.00 for sidewalks less than 200 linear feet in length or $100.00 for sidewalks longer than 200 feet. The City may remove the snow or ice on private property when the owner fails to comply within the designated period and, in that event, will charge the costs to the property owner.

All residential sidewalks are the responsibility of the property owner. Residents are asked to be considerate of their neighbors and keep their sidewalks clear for everyone to use them. Residents should shovel snow into their yard, not the street. Putting snow into the street is against the law because it causes dangerously slippery conditions for both motorists and pedestrians.

City of Peoria Preps for Winter Storm

City Wide Parking Ban to go in Effect at 6 pm Tonight

February 1, 2022 (Peoria, IL) With nearly a foot of snow forecasted for the next two days, a city-wide parking ban has been issued for the city of Peoria beginning at 6 pm tonight through 6 pm on Thursday, February 3. An Emergency Declaration has also been signed banning parking on City streets. This will apply to all streets within the City so plows and emergency vehicles can have access. The public is encouraged to move their cars to their driveways or the alternative parking locations below and then stay inside for the duration of the storm. Residents should not move their cars to alleys.

This parking ban is city-wide. Cars parked on City Streets may be subject to towing or a minimum of a $50 ticket.
Alternative Parking Locations:
Residents may move their cars to any of the following locations during the parking ban:
• Twin Towers Parking Garage, 123 SW Jefferson Street
• Niagara Deck, 109 W Adams Street
• Jefferson Deck, 236 SW Jefferson Street
• Northwoods Mall, on the south side of the lot, near I-74
There will be no charge to residents using the deck, but those using the parking decks will need to take the ticket for access. Decks will be monitored by security. Alternative paring locations will be available from 3 pm on Tuesday, February 1 until 8 am on Saturday, February 5.

City Hall Closed to the Public—Online Services Available
To keep staff and visitors safe, City Hall will be closed to the public on February 2 and 3 and staff will be working remotely.
Residents can submit help requests through peoriagov.org through the UCare Report or by calling 494-CARE. Online payments for parking tickets, stormwater, pension fee, and code violations may be paid at peoriagov.org

Snow Fighter Update
To clear as many streets as possible, Public Works has added contractors to their snow removal team. City of Peoria Snow Fighters will focus on arterials while the contractors work through the residential roads. “It is essential that people remove their cars from all of the streets to allow not only our crews to work, but to provide access to any emergency vehicles. Staying home and out of the storm is not only the safest option for you but helps those who have to be out on the streets during this snow event,” said Superintendent of Streets Sie Maroon.

Spring is quickly approaching, and with neighborhood cleanups just around the corner, the city of Peoria Community Development Department would like to remind residents that dumping construction supplies, old furniture, and other bulky items in vacant lots, alleys, and ravines is not a legal method of disposal. Items that are illegally dumped are an environmental hazard to all residents.

In addition to ongoing education, Code Enforcement is combatting illegal dumping by issuing tickets of $500 or more to perpetrators of illegal dumping. Code Enforcement Inspectors have placed field cameras across the City, in alleys and around the districts, to catch people in the act of illegally dumping. Code Enforcement staff has partnered with the Peoria Police Department to identify culprits, ticket and bill the responsible parties for the cost of cleaning up items that have been illegally dumped.

The city of Peoria Community Development Department would like to remind residents that Peoria Disposal Company (PDC) will pick up bulky waste items in weekly collection. Bulky waste is defined as items too large to fit inside your trash cart such as furniture, mattresses, building materials, and other big items. These items can be collected from your household at no additional cost. Place these items next to your trash cart with three feet of separation at your curb or alley on your scheduled pickup day. Please note that appliances, electronics, concrete, and tires will not be picked up. The Tireless Project monthly tire collection will also resume later in the Spring.

Residents who are interested in bringing awareness to the fight against illegal dumping may request “No Dumping” yard signs by calling 309-494-2273. The signs, which were designed by a local graphic designer, bring awareness to illegal dumping in Peoria.

To report illegal dumping, please submit a complaint through Peoria Cares at (309) 494-2273 or online at www.peoriagov.org/peoria-cares.

The city of Peoria will be picking up fallen limbs and branches from residents' curbs after the weekend's winter weather.

Residents can place their fallen limbs at the curb, with collection starting Friday, Jan. 8 and running through Monday, Jan. 11.

The city is asking the tree debris to be bundled, if possible, with sticks and branches no longer than 5 feet and weighing no more than 50 pounds.

"This is a continuation of the Department’s mission to ensure streets and sidewalks are safe for residents and visitors. City workers will not go onto private property to remove trees, limbs, branches or any other storm debris. Property owners should contact a private tree removal company for assistance if they are unable to remove trees and associated debris," the press release read.

The department also noted:

Do not place tree/storm debris in roadways or block sidewalks which creates hazardous conditions
Public Works will not pick up any other yard waste or anything placed inside a landscape waste bag
Due to the demand and urgent need for post storm recovery actions, the Department will be directing its full efforts to collecting storm debris

Please remember that while there is no requirement to obtain a permit for a temporary campaign sign, there are a few rules that need to be followed related to the placement of these signs in Peoria.

Temporary signs on residential properties (single-family and apartments) cannot exceed 8 square feet.
Temporary signs on non-residential properties cannot exceed 32 square feet.
There is no limit on the number of signs that can be placed on a property.
There is no limit on how long a sign can remain on the property.
Temporary signs must be kept in good condition.
Temporary signs cannot move or give the appearance of movement. This would include teardrop banner flags, bunting, etc.
Temporary signs should not be placed in a location that creates a dangerous sight-line situation for vehicles and pedestrians. This is typically only an issue for large signs at corner properties.
Temporary signs cannot be placed on the public right-of-way. This is typically the area between the sidewalk and the street but can extend behind the sidewalk. The right-of-way also includes all boulevards, intersections, medians, and roundabouts.
The City requests the cooperation of all candidates in following these regulations. Violations on private property will result in a warning. If the violation is not corrected, a ticket may be issued to the property owner. All signs in the public right-of-way will be removed without warning.

Please contact the City Community Development Department at [email protected] with any questions related to the placement and size of campaign signs.
