Petoskey Montessori Children's House
We are a non-profit Montessori school and childcare center that has served families for 50 years
Our Primary class had special visitors today - it was Special Person Day!
The Primary students invited their special person(s) to class today to show all the various works they’ve completed this year. Whether it was learning about shapes or completing the hundred board, the accomplishments varied but were all equally impressive feats.
It was a wonderful way to wrap up the school year!
What a treat! Yesterday the elementary students made their last visit of the year to Pineview Cottage, where the kids were treated to an ice cream sundae bar.
After the ice cream, they enjoyed some games with the residents. We’re looking forward to seeing all the residents again in the fall!
It feels like summer today, so it's a good day to raffle off a Classic Pit Barrel Cooker! For $10, get a raffle ticket and get entered to win a Classic Pit Barrel Cooker and get ready to get cooking!

We are so excited for the school art show tonight at 6pm at Northcoast Works!
We have gotten a few questions about whether children are invited. Several parents have said that they planned on an adult evening and several planned to view the art with their kids. Both options sound delightful. We will leave the choice up to each family.
If you haven’t already, please use the QR code in the post below to register for the event so we have an idea of how many people to expect. iPhone users can screenshot the code, open the picture in your photo gallery and then long press the QR code. Per Reddit, Android users should:
“Drop down notification panel. Select Scan QR code. Select picture icon. Choose the picture to be scanned from the gallery.”
Partial preview of the Primary classroom art project up for auction on Saturday!

We're so grateful for support we've received so far!
Anyone who is planning to speak in support of the school is welcome to join us for a planning session Tuesday, February 13 at 5:30pm at PMCH.
We would appreciate the opportunity to review the academic data that has led PSP to the conclusion that the only remedy for PMCH's students' academic success is to transition all students to another district elementary school and close PMCH. As current parents and supporters, we call on PSP to share the data with us to review, understand, and ask informed questions because, given only data below, it's hard to see how one would define PMCH as academically failing the students of Petoskey.
To our PMCH Supporters,
Petoskey Public Schools has notified us that they do not intend to renew the management agreement, which has been in place for 25 years, after this school year. We have been in discussions with the PSP Board of Education since the fall, however they advised us last week that their decision remains the same.
They have informed us that our students are not performing as required/expected and that combined with the challenges PSP has providing support services to children who attend our school, are the factors that are contributing to their decision of non-renewal.
We have requested that this be included on an upcoming Board of Education Agenda so that we can speak in support of the school and the program.
We will be on the Board of Education Meeting Agenda this Thursday, February 15 at 7pm. As such, some suggestions for how parents can help support the school:
- Come to the meeting to speak in support of our school;
- Bring a Petoskey resident (or two) to the meeting to speak to the need for the diverse educational options in Petoskey
- Send emails and make phone calls to Becky Smith, the Director of Teaching & Learning (contact info below), requesting clarification of her concerns surrounding PMCH's performance. Copy the Board of Education as well as Jeff Leslie (Superintendent) on the email to Becky to ensure transparency;
- Send emails and make phone calls to Jeff Leslie & the Board of Education members offering your personal explanation as to why Montessori is an important part of your children's lives as well as what it brings to the community;
