HVAC 10/19/2023

You may have heard that Calvary Center for Culture and Community (CCCC) and Calvary United Methodist Church are moving forward on plans to install an HVAC system in the building.

We have created the HVAC @ Calvary Matching Gift Campaign to help accelerate us toward our goal of matching the $100,000 grant from the National Fund for Sacred Places!

With over $65,000 raised thus far, we are nearly there! We are asking that you share this campaign with everyone in your membership to maximize its reach. Efficient heating and cooling is an essential part of making sure our community is comfortable, safe, and thriving. We are so excited to get started on the project. A church sold its old stained glass windows for $6,000. It turned out they were rare Tiffany’s glass. 05/09/2023

Heartbreaking story about the loss of valuable windows from a neighboring historic church. We are lucky thanks to neighbors who rallied for Calvary that we still have our Tiffany windows...two of the largest sets in the region. You can see "Resurrection" and "Ascension", both signed by Tiffany Studios, in the Calvary sanctuary.

Heartbreaking

We have very sad news. Yesterday rains from hurricane Ida totally (see photo) flooded our temporary storage space where our collection was moved to temporarily while we find our forever home.

The garages held the vast majority (thankfully not all) of Spiral Q’s collection: over 2,000 pieces that stood as a living document of 25 years of personal and collective stories of struggle, identity, and justice in Philadelphia. In addition to this massive loss, the garages held much office and studio equipment and materials.

This is a tremendous loss for Spiral Q. We are headed to Phoenixville right now to uncover the damage as the water has gone down.

Please reach out if you have questions or concerns- we know this information will be heartbreaking for many of you as it is for us.

At this time we call on our community to help us as we anticipate the time, equipment and replacement costs of this damage and help us create space to identify our forever home.

Link in our bio to help us start fundraising - we are nothing if not resilient and with you we know we can do anything. 💔

MESSAGE FROM THE CALVARY CENTER FOR CULTURE AND COMMUNITY.
Dear neighbors and friends,

You all know how much the Calvary building means for Baltimore Avenue and for Cedar Park. That’s why we’re writing to you now, because we need your support of the Calvary Center for Culture and Community (CCCC) in preparation for an ambitious, multimillion-dollar capital campaign coming up this fall.
Details are still being finalized, but funds raised through the “Anchoring the Future” campaign – buoyed by a $500,000 matching grant from the state – will enable major interior and exterior repairs and renovations. Those improvements will ultimately make the building safer and structurally sound, more versatile for multipurpose use, more accessible, more energy efficient, and more comfortable for all of the organizations and activities it hosts, including Cedar Park Neighbors.

But before it can launch the campaign, CCCC needs help from us and other building users to raise at least $60,000 for critical preliminary expenses – most notably architect fees to develop a master plan for the building, and consultant fees for the campaign itself. This major architectural study is being conducted by OZC, our own local firm who know and love the building. We all know that the Calvary building has been largely vacant since the start of the pandemic. With CCCC’s significant loss in rental income, we need all hands on deck this summer to set the stage for a successful capital campaign.

We are already halfway to our goal of $60,000!!! Also, know that your “pre-launch” donation will still be included as part of the campaign total, and so will also be included as part of matching funds for the State RACP grant. That means your donation will effectively be doubled! You can donate directly to CCCC by check* or online at https://tinyurl.com/CCCCPhilly. Or donate through Cedar Park Neighbors and we’ll forward to CCCC. Either way, be sure to indicate that the donation is for the “Anchoring the Future” campaign.

Beyond your support of CPN, we encourage you to give as generously as you’re able to this pre-launch fundraising push. Your investment in the Calvary building now – and hopefully in support of the “Anchoring the Future” campaign later this year – is a real and solid investment in the future of our shared community.

With gratitude,
Richard Y. Kirk
Board President, CCCC
