Disabled in Action is composed of individuals with disabilities who want the freedoms and privileges embodied in their basic civil rights. Advocacy Group
What a busy day! First we trained the mentors from PaTTAN who are supporting the disability inclusive curriculum pilot and then people across the country who will become DEE's trainers and advocates. Enormous thanks to Lisa and Sharon who help and guided me to create these courses and utter respect to all participants. Don't hesitate to reach out. The movement for a disability inclusive curriculum is growing why don't you become part of it?
We just had our session one with people who want to train on the disability inclusive curriculum. What a great group. I sincerely hope that they connect with each other and learn not just from us but as a group. I hope we can give them the tools to do that and the resources that can help them spread the word about the disability inclusive curriculum. In my heart was Mike Oliver who coined the Social Model of Disability and I remember first being trained by him in 1989 and then becoming friends and collaborators until his death. I hope Mike and his partner Joy would be proud of me using the tools we have to create full citizenship for disabled people.
5th Square and Disabled In Action partnered with Transit Forward Philadelphia, Liberty Resources, Philly Transit Riders Union to produce a full disability audit of the new intercity bus terminal. The audit outlines nearly 30 unique accessibility issues with the Spring Garden site, and offers six immediate, necessary remedies.
UPDATE 12/6/23: Intercity Bus Terminal Relocation Remains Incomplete The city has relocated the intercity bus terminal yet again, but issues remain around accessibility at this new location for Greyhound, Peter Pan, and MegaBus.

On August 7th, 2023, Fran Fulton passed away. From the words of Tom Earl, CEO of Liberty Resources:
"Many of you knew Fran over her decades of work in our CIL’s Independent Living Department. She was an active member of Philly ADAPT, DIA and attended so many of Liberty’s advocacy events and local, state and national ADAPT actions.
She was very committed to disability rights and participated as a Plaintiff enforcing our civil rights under the ADA against Weight Watchers, SEPTA, the City of Philadelphia for polling place and voting machine access, accessible safe sidewalks, Citizens Bank for voice output ATMs, improved access at Philadelphia Airport, and so many other issues important to our independent living movement. She was a force of nature, and commanded undivided attention with her strong voice and conviction.
In the end, lung cancer (she never smoked ci******es) took her away, but she was peacefully in hospice at home surrounded by her loving family and close friends. Ironically, passing to the other side during a thunderous Tornado warning storm. Yes, our Frannie went out with a bang."
This is a video that was created to honor her legacy and memory. ! Liberty Resources

It is with great sadness that we relay the news that former Independent Living Specialist, Shawn Tucker, has passed away.
Shawn was a great IL ambassador, active member of Disabled in Action of Pennsylvania, Inc. and a strong Philly Adapt warrior.
Most of all she was compassionate and a loving friend. She always spoke from her heart, and never was afraid to express her opinions in a sincere & strong manner. We were blessed to have worked with Shawn over many years and her spirit and wonderful memories will always be with us.
Rest in Peace & Power, Shawn!
