We were so excited to present the Civic Leadership Award to for his contributions & leadership to the Philadelphia community!!
“His priorities include making West and Southwest Philly housing affordable, working to transform the criminal justice system – including ending cash bail, death by incarceration, the school-to-prison pipeline and reimagining public safety – making public education accessible to all, preserving our environment with a Green New Deal, protecting workers and labor unions, and working to ensure that the needs of all people, especially those most vulnerable, are met.”
In these challenging times it’s comforting to know there are voices that represent the working class & stand up for the most vulnerable populations. Thank you for your hard work & dedication to Philadelphians!!!

Savage Sisters Recovery, Inc was thrilled to present the Humanitarian Award to Dr Jamal Shaban at the Worth Saving Gala!
Over the past few years, Dr. Shaban has become a consistent volunteer, wound care supply donor & trainer at our facility. The connection that came from a simple, human interaction has been incredible. He wanted to find his sister, we were able to help. Following that introduction, we began working together to serve the community & provide compassionate care while continuously updating wound care trainings with his expertise and advice.
Thank you so much for your service & dedication to this public health crisis!!
Everyday the team hits the street to serve our community with life saving supplies. Grateful to be able to connect with our friends & create meaningful relationships with those in need.
We serve in Kensington, Frankford, South Philly, 69th street, Chester & along the Septa line. To get involved contact [email protected]
Charlie traveled to NY to speak at the NY Harm Reduction Association about changes in the drug supply & associated withdrawals. Savage is grateful to be invited & eager to share what we’ve learned on the ground!!

"Because we hyper-focused on fentanyl for so long, the criminal drug market responded with a more lethal and potent substance to adulterate and then dominate the supply,” said Sarah Laurel, the founder and executive director of Savage Sisters Recovery, Inc , a Philadelphia nonprofit that offers free services to people experiencing homelessness and substance use. "The same thing will happen if we have a new focus on xylazine. They are just going to find a new substance that is going to satisfy the demand."
Alixe Dittmore from the National Harm Reduction Coalition also states, "you can’t say that you want people to stop using drugs and then every time I call for a detox bed, there’s not a bed. We have incredibly punitive and prohibitive services. You really have to holistically look at it when you’re worried about how many folks are passing away.”
