Greetings beloved!!
I greet you in the name of Jesus on this first day in my new call as Bishop of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod. As I was preparing for this day – I was full of the first day of school jitters, but trust me, the outfit was picked, the lunch packed and yes, the photos were taken as we prepared at the house this morning for my first day as Bishop and the first day of 4th grade! Perhaps many of your households had similar energy this morning – full of the hope of new beginnings and another year of possibilities.

Generation Zero-Hunger The world produces more than enough food to feed every person, yet the number of people who are hungry has grown since 2019. More than 2 billion people around the world aren’t sure where their next meal will come from, and for as many as 828 million people, that next meal won’t come at all.
Dear Rostered Leaders,
As we approach this election season, I invite the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod to join us and fellow faith leaders in Harrisburg on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Capitol for an interfaith press conference to present our joint statement, "Choices and Voices for Peace." The intent of this joint statement is to call for peace in a time when the fraught political climate in our country is leading some people to choose violence and hate. Clergy are encouraged to bring lay members and wear clothing that identifies them as religious leaders, while avoiding any partisan symbols. Our goal is to emphasize our shared values of peace and respect for all people, regardless of political stance.
We wish to emphasize our shared respect for the dignity of all people and not press for any political or personal agenda under the guise of religion. By signing on to this statement https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeQn_hf6s6qemaPw18qx06b2BdcNSkuQw_h3_Vv5Vs9GrePxw/viewform and attending the press conference at the Capitol, you will join religious leaders across Pennsylvania in embodying our shared commitment to justice, dignity, and the wellbeing of all. Together, we can be a visible sign of hope and healing for our communities.
To read and sign the statement or to share it with others, click here:https://www.lss-elca.org/wp-content/uploads/Choices-and-Voices-for-Peace.pdf If you sign on, you will receive more details about logistics closer to the event. I hope you will add your voice to this call for peace and, if possible, stand with us in Harrisburg on September 5.
In Christ,
The Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Davenport, Bishop
The Rev. Bryan J. Penman, Bishop - Elect

This weekend we celebrated the ordination and installation of the Rev. Taylor Joyce Walker! We are so thankful the Holy Spirit has called her to serve Zion Lutheran Church in Spring City here in SEPA, and we invite you to join us as we pray: Eternal God, through your Son, Jesus Christ, pour out your Holy Spirit upon Taylor, and fill her with the gifts of grace for the ministry of word and service. Send your power and blessing, that she may carry out this ministry with faithfulness and perseverance. Let your servant’s life and teaching so reflect your grace that many may come to know you and love you through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
