“My main goal in life is to build a good library of Black history—knowledge is a form of Black power and this is my part in it.” - Charles L. Blockson
The ROZ Group celebrates the life of Mr. Charles L. Blockson, who passed on June 14, 2023. He leaves behind the world-renowned Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection at Temple University, one of the most prestigious collections of African American 2D and 3D artifacts in the United States. Blockson donated his collection to Temple in 1984 because of the university’s diverse student body and its location of in the heart of the North Philadelphia’s African American community. Thanks to Blockson, students who study the African diaspora have access to items dating back to 1581. His legacy will play a large role in keeping the world informed about Black excellence. He was a giant of history, an embodiment of love for the community, and made much of our work possible.
TRG was proud to provide outreach support to The Mann Center for the Performing Arts for their first-ever HBCU Fest this past Saturday. Despite the weather, thousands of people showed up to chat with the college reps, take in some great performances, and meet members of the D9 orgs up close and personally.
Salute to an outstanding effort all around!
On a beautiful Friday evening, we joined our clients Mental Health First Connects for a Meet & Greet reception at their new temporary home in Chestnut Hill, while construction gets underway on their permanent location just a few doors up on Germantown Avenue. The decor is so beautiful in the temporary space that we imagine it will be difficult for them to part ways with their current digs.
And earlier this week, we captured images of members of the GreenLiving Phl Executive Committee (in-person and via Zoom) in conversation with Philadelphia mayoral candidate Allan Domb. The primary is set for May 16, so make sure your voter registration is current to participate.
It's been an amazing flurry of activity with our clients over the past week, as the TRG team has assisted them with their community engagement efforts.
We share another look at Philanthropy Network Greater President Christine Robinson's keynote address at last week's Faces of Philanthropy award breakfast. Philadelphia Children's Alliance hosted its first-ever PREVENT Conference, training our city's citizens to be better partners in preventing child sexual abuse. And, as PCA approaches their annual Bear Affair fundraiser on May 4 (bearaffair.org for tix), we directed a video project that will debut at the event, acknowledging the inner turmoil that parents face after learning that their child has been assaulted.
We celebrate these dynamic leaders and the necessary work that their organizations accomplish, for the good of us all.
Yesterday, our TRG team was able to share in the success of two of our clients.
The morning began with a keynote from Christine Robinson of Philanthropy Network Greater Philadelphia for the Philadelphia Business Journal's Faces of Philanthropy award breakfast. Shortly thereafter, Philadelphia Children's Alliance was presented with a City Council Proclamation honoring their steadfast advocacy work, in recognition of . 6abc Action News reporter TaRhonda Thomas also highlighted PCA in a feature story encouraging all Philadelphia citizens to get deeply engaged in better protecting our city's children.
Busy, meaningful work and well-deserved accolades, all around.

Promoting diversity by resolving worker burnout - Philadelphia Inquirer - Philly Edition, 5/19/2021 For some, such as Jane Grant, 28, the mental toll has pushed them out of the workplace altogether. “You’re watching people be shot down, be killed and all these horrible graphic things that we’re not meant to constantly take in,” she said. “Those things play on your mental health.” LUKE ...
