The Breakthrough team has another Teaching Fellow Spotlight! We deeply appreciate our summer teaching fellows and all they had to contribute to the program. Take a look at their takeaways from this past summer, including the memorable contributions they made to the program.

We are excited to partner with the City of Philadelphia's Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunity (CEO) on OnePhillyConnect - a new effort designed to help the people of Philadelphia find, understand, and access free and life-changing services from local, state and national agencies.

With summer program behind us, the hallways of Breakthrough are quieter this month! Over the next two weeks, let's take a stroll down memory lane and spotlight our Teaching Fellows who taught, mentored, and inspired over 175 Scholars this summer.

And that's a wrap! Today marked the last day of our summer program. Thank you to all the Scholars and Teaching Fellows. We are so happy we got to spend the summer with you all!

Scholars and Teaching Fellows competed against each other today in cup stacking for one last opportunity to earn SLC points!

It was a busy day on GFS campus today! Andre D. Carroll came to visit us. Scholars learned a Bollywood dance, and there is nothing like a Y2K throwback spirit day theme!

A special thanks to our visitors today who took the time out of their day to witness Breakthrough in action!

Friday Fun Day! Instead of a field trip, the Scholars stayed on campus today for a very fun and relaxed day. They also competed against each other in a variety of different games!

Experiment Day! Today in science class the Scholars used a variety of ingredients to make their own lava lamps!

Spirit Day! Today, Scholars and Teaching Fellows dressed as elderly people. The best dressed earned points for their SLC!

Trivia Tuesday! Scholars competed in a game of "Guess the Zoomed in Image" for a chance to earn SLC points!

Last week, the scholars did an experiment using a water bottle and a mixture of ingredients. when they mixed everything together, a miniature explosion occurred!

Bez Wallace, the Assistant Director of Admissions at George School, kicked off our day with an engaging talk about life at a boarding school. Afterward, the Scholars headed to the Academy of Natural Sciences, where they spent the rest of the day exploring and learning. A big thanks to Bez for an inspiring morning!

Today, we had the honor of welcoming Nydia Han, who inspired the Scholars with her journey to becoming a news anchor. She shared how determination, hard work, and perseverance helped her overcome barriers and earn opportunities to do what she loves. Thank you Nydia for spending the morning with us!

Spirit day today! Scholars dressed up as Teaching Fellows and Teaching Fellows dressed up as Scholars.

Last Friday, Scholars learned from Kurt Yasenchak, from the Research & Development team Campbell's Soup Company. Kurt, thanks for spending the afternoon with us!

Last Thursday, we welcomed Breakthrough Alumni from the past 29 years for an Alumni Reunion BBQ. We celebrated with the Summer 2024 Teaching Fellows and took a stroll down memory lane!

Today the Scholars listened to Director of Upper School Admissions at GFS, Lauren O'Garro-Moore. Then the scholars spent the rest of the day down at the aquarium. Thank you to the Equitable volunteers for helping us out today! We appreciate it!

Throwback Thursday! Can you believe it's already been two weeks since Opening Day? With the help of 76ers' mascot Franklin the Dog, we officially welcomed 200 scholars and 34 teaching fellows onto campus!

Today during ASM, Scholars and TFs competed against each other in a fun game of limbo for a chance to earn their SLC points!

Michelle Coleman joined the Breakthrough Teaching Fellows for their afternoon Professional Development session. Michelle, a Breakthrough Board Member and Asst. Principal at Edwin Forrest Elementary spoke with our teachers about various careers in education as well as how to infuse DEI into the classroom. Thanks, Michelle for all of the real-world advice!

During ASM today, two new students received the Spirit Stick. Then, the Scholars had a jumping jack competition to earn their SLC more points!

Since it's Friday, the Scholars listened to Zach Demusz, the Director of Admissions and Communications from Roman Catholic. Then, they took a trip to the Philadelphia Zoo!
