IN TRIBUTE 11/29/2021

A TRIBUTE TO THOSE WHO LEFT US DURING THE PAST TWO YEARS
During the pandemic, we’ve lost friends and relatives who have been an integral and important part of the Friends of Pueblo Grande Museum Indian Market and whom we could not properly mourn or give tribute to during the pandemic. It is also true that some of our Native tribal families have prohibitions against giving voice to the names of the friends and relations that we’ve lost. In the spirit of honoring them despite not naming them, we dedicate this page to their memories. Let us remember their deeds and humanity in our hearts and minds during the Indian Market days and the days to come.
They will all be mightily missed.

Food Ways at PGIM 11/18/2021

FOODWAYS AT PUEBLO GRANDE INDIAN MARKET
Definition of foodways : the eating habits and culinary practices of a people, region, or historical period.
The Hohokam maximized the potential of the Pueblo Grande site by using the potential of the curve in the Salt River to nurture and feed thousands of people. They used social connections and transportation infrastructure to grow trade and influence across the Southwest, in harmony with nature. They leveraged natural patterns and connections to create abundant life. In celebration and acknowledgment of Pueblo Grande as a continuous gathering site and an ancient trade route, we present our PGIM Foodways. A mix of traditional and contemporary food, food demonstrations, and learning options from many cultures across Arizona and the Southwest.

Celebrate Indigenous People’s Day by visiting a cultural heritage institution or museum that promotes and honors Native American Communities. Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park is located on a 1,500-year-old archaeological site of ancestral Sonoran Desert people, archaeologically referred to as the Hohokam culture.

This Museum and Archaeological Park will be open on October 11th, formerly known as Columbus Day, it is now recognized as Indigenous People’s Day which we fully honor. The Museum includes a fully accessible 2/3-mile trail takes you through a prehistoric Hohokam archaeological village site with a partially excavated platform mound, ballcourt, and replicated prehistoric houses. There are three galleries to visit while at the Museum including a main gallery which displays artifacts of the Hohokam and discusses the Pueblo Grande village site. Throughout the year, Pueblo Grande Museum has programming for adults, children, and families, which include archaeology classes for kids, arts and crafts workshops, hikes, and lectures, all centered around educating the community, as well as honoring and respecting the cultural traditions of the ancestral Sonoran Desert People.
