Roosevelt Row: The Fight to Keep Downtown Phoenix "Authentic" Is a Fight to Let It Become Something It's Never Been 11/16/2017

Read this article from Phoenix New Times and decide if Jimbo Reid was crazy or spot-on. What do you think about Roosevelt Row's change in the last two years? What will it look like in 3 more years?

Roosevelt Row: The Fight to Keep Downtown Phoenix "Authentic" Is a Fight to Let It Become Something It's Never Been Jimbo Reid is pi**ed off. He's mad that there aren't any "cute chicks" today in Jobot, a coffee shop in an old house on Fifth Street. He's angry that the guy he's talking to on Jobot's cracked front porch keeps asking him about gentrification. He's fuming because the latte he...

It's always going to be Polar Pops and stencil art if we don't take pride in making the big events big. Let's have a good First Friday 5th Street!

Creative bike racks were abundant on 5th Street. The Lost Leaf had a buried park bench in their front yard, Hoodride had a variety of tacked and wire-tied racks around the perimeter, and Lawn Gnome Publishing made this 2x4 and window-guard rack before the City followed through with development plans and Grid Bikes came to the area. Which do you prefer for your community? When was your last bike stolen?

“We just felt that with everything going on in downtown Phoenix, somebody should step in and preserve the character of these two city blocks,” Kreipke says. Without sharing specific names, he praises the long-term efforts of people who've made Roosevelt Row a thriving destination" (Phoenix New Times). Things Didn't End Well for Roosevelt Row in Phoenix v. Arizona Here's what happened.

Photos from 5th Street's post 07/24/2017

This is Adrian Fontes, and he has put years of long hours into making 5th Street a memorable place to live and work in. Whether he brought his family into eat breakfast at Jobot Coffee & Bar, singing mariachi at the Chile Pepper Festival, stocking shelves at Bodega 420, running for public office, Adrian showed us all that anyone from our neighborhood can change policy through living as an example, trusting people for help, supporting family, contributing to arts and culture, and putting your feet firmly into ideology you believe in. You can catch him these days as Maricopa County's Recorder.

This is Billie Speece, and she has put years of long hours into making 5th Street a wonderful place to live and work in. Whether she was making chai lattes at Jobot Coffee & Bar or running "The Letter Writing Society" at Lawn Gnome Publishing, Billie always does what she loves, and the result is that nothing she does is less than amazing. She loves hot dogs, rides bikes, plays with small dogs, wears costumes that somehow incorporate facial hair, and appreciates sewing machines and board games. You can catch her these days over at Jobot still serving the community, and keeping it weird.

Phoenix Annual Parade of the Arts In Pictures 07/09/2017

Remember when The Phoenix Annual Parade of the Arts used to happen on 5th Street? Floats where made out of anything artists could get their hands on! Too bad the new students at ASU couldn't get enough gumption to make it happen like this today. Too bad the developers didn't plan for encouraging this decade old tradition to continue when they moved in!

Phoenix Annual Parade of the Arts In Pictures The ultra-eclectic Fifth Street in downtown Phoenix got even more coloful than usual as a flock of funky types gathered for freaktastic fete of epic proportions this past weekend.. First Friday? Nah, that ain't for another couple weeks. It was the Phoenix Annual Parade of the Arts, a pulchitrudinous...
