Phoenix Rescue Mission
Transforming Lives. Transforming the Valley. We are driven by our calling to provide solutions to the men, women, and children who come to our doorstep each day.
Established seven decades ago next door to the present site of Chase Field, the Mission has grown from holding a chapel service and serving sandwiches to 15 migrant workers to a Christ-centered, life-transforming homeless outreach, recovery program, and food insecurity resource that serves thousands of people each year. Phoenix Rescue Mission is a leading provider of Christ-centered, life-transfor

On Tuesday, Phoenix set a new record for having 100 straight days of being at or over triple digits. It's headlines like these that remind us of the importance of the work we are doing, the work that is only accomplished together.
While our official Code:Red campaign is focused through August, your support is allowing our teams to continue to brave the heat. Please pray for our staff, partners, and neighbors still enduring the high temps.
If you've been through a Phoenix public park the last few months, you might have passed one of our crews with Will Works.
Launched in 2018, Will Works is a program with our Street Outreach focused on bringing meaningful solutions to people experiencing homelessness. Participants complete day-labor projects, earning a pay check while also connecting to resources for job placement, resume building, and case management.
This last month the teams have been busy landscaping in Cholla, Dos Lagos, and Morcomb Parks.
TODAY is our last 'Water Wednesday' of our Code:Red campaign. Partners around the Valley stop by our warehouse and pick up water to be distributed at churches, businesses, and heat relief centers.
We want to extend a huge thankyou to Salt River Project for their $15,000 gift towards our Code:Red efforts which make days like today possible. Thank you SRP!
As a baby, Gabe was abandoned on the steps of a police station. He was adopted several months later, but when he was 12, his adopted mother suffered a breakdown and kicked Gabe out.
He bounced between friendsโ houses, never having a real home. Never feeling a part of anything.
โWhen I was 15, I discovered meth,โ Gabe says. โEverything else in the world took a backseat to that.โ
Drugs became his reason for living for the next 30 years.
Eventually, Gabe wound up homeless and was arrested for possession. He was sentenced to serve his time at Tent City, the outdoor jail that was shut down several years ago.
One day, desperate to get out of the sun, Gabe went to a class Phoenix Rescue Mission offered at the jail.

July was the second hottest month on record with a daily average temperature of 102 degrees.
We all know it's hot, none more than our neighbors on the street. Through donations and support from our community, our Street Outreach team this summer has been able to rescue over 300 individuals off the streets and provided over 800 transports to heat relief centers. The heat isn't done yet, but neither are we. Visit phxmission.org/codered to get involved!
Code:Red update! As of August 1st, we have passed out ๐ค๐ซ๐๐ง ๐๐๐ก๐ ๐ ๐ข๐๐ก๐ก๐๐ค๐ฃ water bottles across the Valley. Every person, group, and organization that has donated - YOU are helping change lives.
This number is not attainable without your support, thank you everyone!
Phoenix Rescue Mission was recently honored by City of Avondale, AZ as one of the nonprofits serving the Avondale community! Manette Torres, Street Outreach Supervisor, and Regina Robles, Street Outreach Case Manager, celebrated this achievement at a presentation ceremony last week.
We are so appreciative of the cities like Avondale that partner with us to continue to provide resources and services around the Valley.
We want to thank Matt Brinkman and the 16 interns at Burns & McDonnell for their fundraising efforts in raising $12,500 dollars for our Code:Red campaign. Matt shared with our CEO and Partnerships Manager that this is the 10th year of the interns overseeing this fundraiser!
Thank you Burns & McDonnell for your continued partnership that allows the Mission to spread hope and save lives during these months of extreme heat!
This past week we were honored to be among the organizations recognized during Women's Night at the Diamondbacks game.
This generous donation from D-backs Give Back will go towards supporting the women and children living at our Changing Lives Center. Thank you for believing in our mission to transform lives!

In a continued effort to provide heat relief around the Valley, 's Scottsdale office recently donated 77 cases of water as part of our Code:Red initiative. Thank you to every person who participated.
We received a $2,000 from our friends at The Starbucks Foundation. The Starbucks district manager nominated PRM after hearing about us through one of our church partners. They then visited our Changing Lives Center for a tour to celebrate!
We are thankful for partners and donors like this who help us to continue providing life-changing services!
This past Saturday we hosted our annual Back to School Event! Our team of volunteers, staff, and community partners were able to connect families with resources for a successful start of the school year.
We had over 500 people attend and were able to give out 372 backpacks, over 750 new school uniforms, and over 350 pairs of shoes! Thank you to everyone that donated and prayed for this event. It wouldn't have been a success without you!
Today only, you have the chance to TRIPLE your impact to help provide life-saving, heat-relief for 3x the people!
A generous friend of the Mission believes so much in the life-saving work being done this summer that they will TRIPLE MATCH every $1 given by ๐บ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ป๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐, up to $50,000. Visit here to donate: https://phxmission.org/3xTuesday
Later this month, our annual Back to School event will be taking place. For the third year in a row, Molina Healthcare has generously donated $15,000.00. This gift will allow us to ensure that we can serve 300 families here in the Valley. We are grateful for their continued support, allowing us to help those who need it most.
We know it's hot. We feel it when we walk to our cars, when we step outside to take a phone call, or when we open the back door to let the dog out. But what we don't realize is just how hot the concrete and asphalt is. Our neighbors on the street walk, rest and sleep on the smoldering ground. But they don't have to. You can join Phoenix Rescue Mission this summer to hand out life-saving water, hygiene kits, care, and more. Watch this video of our CEO, Ken Brissa explaining the truth behind the temperature.

Eva had lived through domestic violence before, so when her new boyfriend started showing the tell-tale signs of an abuser, she knew she, her kids, and her unborn child had to escape.
If friends like you hadnโt made it possible for us to welcome them at the Mission, she would have ended up on the streets. If it had been July, she might have been safe from her abuser โ but not the deadly triple-digit heat.

Last week, on one of the hottest days of this year, our women and children at the Changing Lives Center were gifted with a Water Day! They were able to enjoy water activities, games, food, and these delicious snow cones from Kona Ice! This is just one of the amazing on-campus events our program and staff team put together to bring joy to our residents as they journey through their one-year program.
This man embodies the struggles many face daily: unseen and unheard. In Phoenix, our Code:Red Heat Relief campaign is a lifeline for our hurting, thirsty neighbors. As temperatures soar, this initiative provides essential resources like water and hygiene, helping to save lives. We are called to be His hands and feet, extending love, compassion, and hope.

Sergio knows what itโs like to try to survive in Phoenix during the brutal summer heat because he did โ but barely.
โI had blistered feet and could barely walk. It was excruciatingly hot. I just needed water. If I didnโt get it, I would have definitely been in danger of dying.โ
Sergio survived by finding spigots and staying there, drinking water until his body was hydrated enough to move a few more blocks. He didnโt want to be out there, but he thought he had no other choice.
One August day, as the temperature soared, Sergio knew that if he was going to survive, he needed help. His family had told him about Phoenix Rescue Mission so he called us and made an appointment to come in.
โAfter five years, I was done. I could see I wasnโt able to stop my drinking and drug use on my own. I wanted out of the heat, away from the hunger and the shame. I was ready to walk through those gates.โ

Last summer we distributed 810,685 water bottles thanks to incredible donors and partners who came together to donate cases of water. Our goal this year is to hand out ๐,๐๐๐,๐๐๐, and to do so, we need your help. You feel it already, the scorching heat is literally around the corner, and when the temperatures rise, the risk of illness and death also rises.

Our goal during Code:Red is to collect and distribute 1 million water bottles. During the scorching summer, the body needs twice as much water to survive the temperatures, and our unhoused neighbors are in the gravest need. Thanks to incredibly generous partners like Albertsons, our efforts can be magnified. They have granted Phoenix Rescue Mission $20,000 towards our heat-relief efforts which will in turn save more lives.
The Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust is a dedicated partner to counteracting the unnecessary loss of lives. They believe in the life-saving work that is done during these months through our efforts. They gave Phoenix Rescue Mission a generous grant to fund our heat relief efforts.
Our 12th Code:Red Heat Relief campaign is underway. During the scorching summer, Phoenix Rescue Mission's Street Outreach team is a much-needed resource and respite for those experiencing homelessness. Last year, 645 people died from heat-related deaths.
Thank you very much, Virginia G. Piper Trust Board of Trustees and staff, because of generous partners like you, more lives will be saved this summer.

We all know itโs bad to be on the streets in the summer heat. But unless you hear it from someone like John, itโs hard to imagine.
โItโs extremely dangerous. Youโre not drinking enough water. Youโre spending as much time as you can in the shade. I was doing everything I could to stay hydrated. At night, you really canโt sleep because youโre sweating.โ
John got so sick that he ended up in the hospital. Thatโs when he remembered the people he had met before โ the people from Phoenix Rescue Mission. He reached out for help, and we got him connected to the menโs program at our Transforming Lives Center.
