Where does the term “Gas Lighting” come from?

The term "gaslighting" comes from the 1938 British play "Gas Light" wherein a husband attempts to drive his wife crazy using a variety of tricks causing her to question her own perceptions and sanity. "Gas Light" was made into a movie both in 1940 and 1944.

"No, I'm afraid it don't work that way. You can't let a young’n decide for himself. He'll grab at the first flashy thing with shiny ribbons on it. Then, when he finds out there's a hook in it, it's too late. Wrong ideas come packaged with so much glitter that it's hard to convince ‘em that other things might be better in the long run. All a parent can do is say 'wait' and 'trust me' and try to keep temptation away."
Somehow... we have lost this basic truth. Too many people are more worried about being their child’s friend, than in being a parent.

As a Child and Family Counselor, PAY ATTENTION! 📢 If a child says something to you or shows fear toward being with or around someone, ANYONE; father, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, grandmother, grandfather, step father, mother. step mother, cousin, your best friend, neighbor, teacher, pastor… BELIEVE THEM!! 😩You can investigate but believe them until you know. 😡

Helping kids manage their emotions in competition requires games that challenge them when winning or losing. Play therapist can use teaching moments to help children learn good sportsmanship.

In this UNO game the therapist hand was loaded and didn’t give the child a turn… 😲 She played the hand from left to right anyway! We teach but we don’t just let them win. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Lesson received! 👏🏽😅
