Can't wait to kick off our first Freshworks performance in the Fall! 🙌🏾 Featuring artist Yusef Shelton (Ys1) Yusef Shelton Da First, he will present his work-in-progress, Barbershop Talk, on Friday and Saturday, October 4–5, from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
💈 Barbershops have long been centers of economic prosperity and social change, providing safe spaces for Black communities and playing a pivotal role in the early hip-hop scene. In this deeply personal performance, Ys1 brings the experience to life in a stylized barbershop setting, celebrating resilience and encouraging audiences to embrace their authenticity.
👀 🤫 For anyone curious, we will be sharing more behind-the-scenes content over the next few weeks as Ys1 dives into his in-studio time during his Freshworks residency.

Join us at Kelly Strayhorn Theater for the opening reception of collective: Sister Soul Spectrum on September 19th from 6 to 8PM! 👩🎨❤️
Sister Soul Spectrum exhibits artworks from the notwhite Collective Spanning photography, painting, mixed media, and more, individual pieces explore cultural heritage, personal identities, and feminist ideologies. The exhibition investigates ways collective members are seen (or not seen) and how they seek liberation through sharing space, telling stories, researching, and making art.
The collective is a group of women artists whose mission is to use non-individualistic, multi-disciplinary art to make their stories visible as they relate, connect, and belong to the Global Majority. The collective uses art to excavate histories, expose realities, exorcize oppression, and actively reject colonialism. 🖌️🎨
Don't worry if you miss the opening reception, because the gallery will be open to the public during and one hour before every KST presents event! Check out the link in our bio for more details! 🙌

Now, rest, rejoice, reflect, and show gratitude for the beauty and brilliance that we are.
