And now that it has, here’s your FRESH FEST . Due to creative differences between its co-founders, Fresh Fest is being rebranded! As a result, craft beer lovers, brewers, connoisseurs, newbies and groupies will now have TWO NEW festivals to drink up and turn up.

After two successful consecutive runs, Fresh Fest Beer Fest became the benchmark and one of the nation’s preferred beer festivals. Featuring Black Brewers and breweries, the dopest collabs, the best live musicians, amazing artists, chefs, and panel discussions, Fresh Fest will forever be known and remembered for its impact on the world of craft beer.

As the country reopens, so will the taps. In the spirit of the original fest, we bring you two new festivals in two new locations with two times the freshness and two times the fun! For the first event, join the Barrel and Flow Fest at Southside Works September 10-12 in Pittsburgh, PA where Black Arts will be on tap. You can look forward to “the collective creativity of music, visual art, and culinary art”.

For the second event, we are commandeering the month of October to bring you our 2nd annual Blacktoberfest – the baddest, blackest, brew fest known to man. Blacktoberfest celebrates our cultural connection to beer, food, family and entertainment in ways that recognize and follow the Black Wall Street concept of circular economics.

Tickets for Barrel & Flow Fest go live April 1st and tickets for Blacktoberfest 2021 begin April 10th so be sure to follow across all social media. Our websites will have updates on breweries, vendors and performances beginning April 5th. We thank you for your continued support in our efforts to create equitable spaces that showcase the excellence of Black People through craft beer. We look forward to seeing you at the best “twofer” ever!

CHEERS!

It is with deep disappointment that we announce that we have officially severed ties with Day Bracey, Ed Bailey and Drinking Partners Podcast in regards to our partnership Fresh Fest Beer Fest. Since the beginning of the 2019 festival campaign, we have quietly battled behind the scenes with numerous disputes over money, contracts and operational structure which have seriously jeopardized the future of the brand.

Unfortunately, Bracey and Bailey have misrepresented themselves to the media, sponsors and breweries as the sole owners of Fresh Fest Beer Fest LLC and have made commitments on behalf of Black Brew Culture and Fresh Fest for an alternative event they've named Fresh Fest Digi Fest 2020. As a result, we have sent a cease and desist letter to their attorney and are seeking an injunction of this event until a ruling can be reached through the Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas. We will not be commenting further via social media but will continue to update the status on our website freshfestbeerfest.com.

We sincerely hope that this matter can be resolved quickly and expeditiously and that the festival can continue on for many years to come. Until then, we will get back to the business of writing, drinking and brewing a in the craft beer industry.

Cheers,

Mike Potter

Founder and CEO of Black Brew Culture

Fresh Fest is going digital this year 06/03/2020

Fresh Fest is going digital this year America’s first black beer festival, scheduled for August in Pittsburgh’s Allentown neighborhood, going digital this year due to COVID-19.

06/01/2020

Due to the effects of and restrictions in place surrounding Covid-19, we will not be able to safely hold our in-person event.

For weeks we have thought on how to further our goals of celebrating Black culture through art, education, collaboration, and representation. And now, we are excited to announce that we are producing America’s first Black (digital) beer festival – a live-streaming event that will be broadcast from the Work Hard Pittsburgh studios and surrounding venues in Allentown. Fresh Fest Digi Fest will offer: live art, music, deejays, podcasts, brewing, cooking, speakers from across the world, and much more!

We are currently developing a free app that can be easily downloaded and will provide an event schedule, updates, links & info for breweries and beer collaborations, vendors, artist and musician information, lead up events, and more.

Stay tuned here and on our other social media pages to learn when the app becomes available.

Our tickets packages will be available June 8, 2020. A single digi pass which will include access to 54 hours of entertainment and education will only be $10.00.

Current 2020 festival ticket holders needn't do anything more to be registered for Digifest. They may also redeem their ticket(s) for one of our future festivals over the next three years. Though we have limited VIP tickets, all regular ticket holders will be upgraded to our early admission when you redeem your 2020 ticket.

Thank you all for your continued support and we look forward to making 2020 the and safest beer festival in America!

Great opportunity to earn that certification during this COVID-19 pause.

REVAMPED AND RESCHEDULED!

Black Brew Culture x Cicerone Training present: Virtual Certified Beer Server Program w/ Master Cicerone Neil Witte.

Black Brew Culture was awarded a grant from the PA Liquor Control Board in order to implement a project entitled “Increasing the Participation of the Black Community in PA Craft Beer”. One aspect of this project involves providing Beer Server training and certification opportunities for Black servers, bartenders, and others in the hospitality and service industry. We are pleased to announce, through our partnership with Cicerone Certification Program, a virtual certification course for individuals looking to take advantage of the extra time we have during the COVID-19 pandemic. Those who earn this certification will not only be better equipped to discuss craft beer as part of the establishments where they currently work, but will also have the potential for better job opportunities and wages. A great opportunity to earn a valuable certification at a substantially reduced cost!

Neil Witte is a 23 year veteran of the craft beer business, starting his career working for 19 years as a brewer, then Field Quality Manager at Boulevard Brewing Company and Duvel USA. In 2017 he founded Craft Quality Solutions, providing market-based quality services to breweries, distributors and retailers. Neil is a Technical Content Specialist and Lead Trainer for the Cicerone Certification Program and is currently one of 19 Master Cicerones. He worked for three years as the Quality Ambassador for the Brewers Association and he co-authored the Brewers Association Draught Quality Manual and Draught Beer Quality for Retailers.

Excited to announce our partnership with Cicerone Certification Program in bringing the Beer Server Certification program to Pittsburgh's Eastside Neighborhood Employment Center!

This year Black Brew Culture was awarded a grant from the PA Liquor Control Board in order to implement a project entitled “Increasing the Participation of the Black Community in PA Craft Beer." One aspect of this project involves providing Cicerone Beer Server training and certification opportunities for the Black servers, bartenders, and others in the hospitality and service industry. Those who earn this certification will not only be better equipped to discuss craft beer as part of the establishments where they currently work, but will also have the potential for better job opportunities and wages.

During this training, Master Cicerone Neil Witte will cover topics that will help attendees master all aspects of beer service, become more fluent in knowledge of styles, and be able to talk like a brewer, in order to become a savvy beer professional.

Neil Witte is a 20 year veteran of the craft beer business. He began his career in the Kansas City brewpub industry, moving to Boulevard Brewing Company. in 1997 as a brewer. In 2001, he took over field quality responsibilities for the brewery, acting as a quality control liaison between the brewery and its distributor and retailer network. He continued that role with the Duvel USA family of beers, including Boulevard and Brewery Ommegang, through the end of 2016. In 2017 he founded Craft Quality Solutions, which draws on his extensive field quality experience, providing field quality services to breweries, distributors and retailers. He is certified through the Beer Judge Certification Program and is currently one of 13 Master Cicerones. He is co-author of the Brewers Association Draught Beer Quality Manual, Draught Beer Quality for Retailers and a contributing author to the MBAA Beer Steward Handbook.

Registration is $35. Training is from 8am-4pm with the exam taking place after (so the entire day will go from about 8am-5pm). Lunch will be provided. 15 max per class.
