Town Council on August 26 voted unanimously to appoint John Schwend to serve as the new Town Manager. He will start on or about October 1.
“Thank you for the opportunity to serve the residents of the Town of McCandless. I hope to provide an exceptional level of service to the community for many years to come,” he said.
Schwend, 43, has served Edgeworth borough since 2014, and has been borough manager there since 2016. Schwend also has a background in construction project management.
He has a bachelor’s degree from Allegheny College in business and managerial economics, and a Master’s degree in public policy management from the University of Pittsburgh.
A lifelong Hampton Township resident, he also serves as the president and chairman of the board of the Hampton Township Volunteer Fire Department.
Schwend replaces Brian O’Malley, who left earlier this year to serve as manager at Richland Township.
